GamesMaster

"Are you trying to suppress my free speech?" he crows, for the crowd's benefit. "Is this what today's guard stands for? Protecting thieves at the expense of citizens?!"

Solras, The Protector

"They are citizens too!" Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch yells just as loud as the racist elf "If one such as you or they do crimes there will be punishment as the law demands, but the crimes do not revoke citizenship nor the protection of the guard from those who would cause harm!

GamesMaster

"Do you hear this? The Guard admitting to protecting my sister's killers!"

The crowd turns, shifting attention back and forth between Solras and the speaker -- and they don't look pleased.

Wylde

Wylde, sizing up the crowd, murmurs, "Maybe we should... um..."

Solras, The Protector

"Protecting them from those would harm them, without the trial that the law demands. If you feel the watch isn't protecting 'your kind' well enough then bloody well sign up for the guard! then you can work within the law, instead of just being a racist advocating exile or murder to a whole species just because you can't deal with the death of a loved one!"

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch really should stop this since she is playing into this asshole's hand, but she's too angry to listen to reason right now

GamesMaster

"You hear how our guard, paid for with our property taxes, defends them!"

One of the crowd members shouts a racial slur about dwarves; another chucks an empty bottle at Wylde, who ducks, grabbing Solras' arm. "We'll lose this fight," she hisses. "At least get behind me!"

Solras, The Protector

It takes a significant amount of effort to move Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch away from the racist. She keeps shouting at him, only stopping when a bottle shatters against her helmet, looks like it was hard enough to daze her because she stops resisting the retreat at that point.

Wylde

Wylde pushes her behind herself, snarling at the crowd -- snarling, like a dog. "Stay back!" she snaps, ready to take on the whole crowd to defend Solras.

Solras, The Protector

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch shaking the glass from her beard and glaring at the man inciting the crowd. "There are few greater evils than beleiving that other People are less than animals compared to onself. May you live long enough to witness that which you inflict on others inflicted upon yourself." she spits before a thrown cobblestone strikes her in the shoulder knocking the wind out of her and her body to the ground.

Wylde

That's all it takes; Wylde lunges forward, laying about with blows from her cudgel, trying to take on the whole crowd at once.

She's beaten, of course, knocked down again and again, refusing to give up. Thankfully for her and Solras, the commotion attracts a senior Guardsman, who calls for backup, and a small squad break up the scrap before it becomes a proper riot. The two of them are hauled back to the guard station, dropped in an office, and told to wait here for the Lieutenant to see to them.

Wylde sits in a chair, gingerly, looking properly remorseful -- though part of that is the ice pack she's holding to her head. "You holding up okay?"

Solras, The Protector

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch is sporting quite the shiner herself from a well placed punch as the crowd was being broken up. She looks.... well still pretty damn angry.

"I have no mercy in my soul for those who do not have mercy for others in theirs."

Not an answer to the question, but... Well it is Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch, if that's the direction she's going with the conversation she can't be that bad off.

Wylde

Wylde winces. "D'you think we'll be fired?"

Aveline Vallen

"Not yet," Sgt. Vallen says grimly as she opens the door. "LT is busy dealing with the political mess of this afternoon, so you're in luck. You get to deal with me instead." She strides into the room and fixes the pair with a steely glare.

They likely do not consider themselves lucky.
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Solras, The Protector

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch tries to snap to attention, but cannot maintain the pose, slipping back to a pained slouch almost immediately.

"Captain."

Wylde

"Sargent," says Wylde, over top of Solras but a half-second delayed. She doesn't mean to correct her, just... cover up the mistake.
