Go Down

The Iron Bull

Bull hesitates, looking over at the horse, who is still leaning against him contently. "Ummm. I mean... people are more, like, important than horses. Mostly. Some horses are pretty great. And, uh, some people are..." He trails off, then shrugs. "Anyway, first first. Would I be able to, I dunno, come visit'em?"

Coquette Blacquin

"Of course. As my guard, we'd have to get you a horse as well, so we can go riding together."

The Iron Bull

"Umm." Bull rubs at the back of his neck. "Did I... not mention about how horses don't really, uh, do, uh, no, that's not-- I'm real big." Oh yeah, that did it. I am the fucking worst at talking.

Coquette Blacquin

"So we'll get you a Clydesdale. They're real big horses."

The Iron Bull

"Like a plow horse?" Bull asks slowly, giving Jasper a thoughtful look. His head is tilted back just a little, as if picturing the gelding being a foot taller. "Huh. Could work actually, maybe." He coughs softly. "Oh. And, uh, thanks. For not, you know, suggesting I ride an ox."

Coquette Blacquin

She shrugs a shoulder. "No ox could keep up with my Jasper. And you'd have to keep up with me if you were guarding me." She pauses, then gives a sheepish smile. "Not that I anticipate any trouble, you understand. I just..." Want you near me. "Better safe than sorry."

The Iron Bull

Bull studies her a moment, then nods slowly. "Be good for Jassy," he says carefully. "Horses aren't good at being by themself. Another gelding, maybe a mare. Well, maybe not a mare, not unless you get a mare and a gelding for when Regal mounts her." He snorts, shaking his head. "Anyway. Company's good, yeah?"

Now he sees a tight, mysterious smile flit across Coquette's face. "Oh, don't you worry about Regal. I have a plan for him."

The Iron Bull

"Uhh."

Both he and Jasper take a step back.

Her smile fades. Am I really so terrifying as all that? Damn. I don't want to terrify my husbands. "Regardless. Think over the offer. If you're interested, report to my chambers after supper tonight and I'll go over your new duties."

The Iron Bull

"You got a streak of cold in ya," Bull notes quietly. "Takes a bit to bring it out, I wager though." He scratches at his chin, then nods sharply as he decides something. "You busy right now?"

Coquette Blacquin

No. When am I ever busy? "I can be available. What did you have in mind?"

The Iron Bull

"Well, I don't remember all that much of'em," Bull admits, seeming sad but accepting that sadness. "But I do recall ma Da telling stories about his work. And they always started with either 'I had this one boss' or 'never take a job paid for by committee.' Uh, th'second one ain't important right now. Anyways. Most of the forma type of story were good or bad depending entire like on if the boss was good or bad." He blushes, just a little. "You seem real sweetlike and you been talking straight with me. Not many done that in my life as yet. So real good start. But I was hoping maybe you'd be up for staying around while I work with Jassy this morning. Chat a bit. Maybe a bunch if you can. Find out about each other afore we set to living in each others pouches."

Coquette Blacquin

"That's wise," she admits. "I've got to go send a message, but I'll be right back and we can talk."

And talk they do. They spend the next hour discussing anything and everything, from Jasper's temperament to her childhood cat to their favorite desserts. Then they're interrupted by the vet Coquette sent for, who does a full checkup on Jasper and a few other things while he's here.

Over dinner that evening, Coquette informs Varisia that her favorite combat-trained mount has been gelded, "to stop him savaging my poor Jasper again." As such, when Bull comes to visit her chambers after dinner, Coquette is still limping and reluctant to sit. "Ah, the Iron Bull. Do come in. Have a seat if you wish."

The Iron Bull

Bull's eyes are a bit wide and he's not even really trying to hide his gawking as he enters the room. At Coquette's offer, he glances down at the chair. "Uh, thinking kinda no on that one, but thanks," he decides after prodding the artfully carved sandalwood chair.  "So I talked to the Housekeeper like you said to and she went over like the contract sorta stuff. Not sure I get the whole working for the Household versus, uh, working... as the Household?"
