Zevran

"Ah! Yes, no I mean. Such devices-- most often hats or hair pins or the like-- are capable of not just deactivating but also projecting multiple forms," Zevran explains quickly. "So, for instance, Noire can take on the shape of the pureblood drow she considers herself as in addition to you being able to find the peace of having your true fitting skin."

Coquette Blacquin

"Oh, you mean a Hat of Disguise. I had one of those. But it doesn't help the way I feel."

Zevran

Zevran shakes his head. "Well, yes, but I was thinking of the more elaborate version," he clarifies. "It cost more than a half dozen of the illusion type, but I have been granted the use of ones that create a true but temporary transformation of the wearer." Zevran shrugs a little. "I cannot say it goes as deep as you might wish, but it certainly felt rather complete to me. Being a female gnome was... a very intriguing experience."

Coquette Blacquin

"True but temporary," he mouths. "Would it interfere with the babe?" he asks suddenly, frowning. "I wouldn't want to.... we lost a babe once. It was one of the most horrific things we can still recall. I wouldn't want to put Cindy through that again. She almost died."

Zevran

Zevran stares at Cedric for a moment, expression blank. "I have absolutely no idea," he says finally. "I.. I do not think so? I know spell transformations do not harm mother or babe, or at least do not always, as I witnessed a pregnant slave being turned into a tree for two days and then go on to deliver a healthy child but I am not sure if an enchanted item is the same?"

Coquette Blacquin

"Alright," he sighs. "We need more information, but... that will do, for now. I have to think on what I can do. We will... we will see a Diviner? For the babe, for its health and...? Alright, then. It's time to rest."

Cedric shifts back to a laying down position, pulling the covers up to his chin. "Thank you," he says quietly, one more time.

Zevran

Smoothing back an errant lock of hair, Zevran smiles down at Cedric fondly. "Whatever else we decide to become to each other, we are family," he says softly. "Rest now, mon vaillant, I will keep watch."

Cibek Haglox, the Siren's resident Oracle, is an orc, as the name implies; he's not even a friendly half-orc, but the real thing, squat and green and bearing a fine pair of tusks. He scowls a lot, but he nods when Isabela asks him to cast the bones over Coquette's pregnancy and Bull's fate, his scowl softening just a little as he hears what they're asking for him.

And so, they gather in Coquette's room as she sips her soup, Noire at the fore once more. Cibek fetches his oracular bones: a set of polished knucklebones, each marked by hand with the orcish runes that symbolize good or ill fortune. He squats on the floor beside the bed, marking out a circle in chalk and inscribing the squat, rough runes that his people use around the edges.

He casts the bones again and again, frowning, before moving to a set of beads on a string that he passes from hand to hand, grabbing a bead at random with his eyes closed. Finally, he settles on a bead that feels  correct, turning it slightly to read the rune on it.

"Beads say, babe is Drow," he grunts. "Bones say, your young man is not the father."

Zevran

Drow. Drow. Oh you poor chi-- what? But then-- oh. Of course. "Can you... can you cast more?" His gaze shifts to Coquette, skimming off her but returning only to slide away again. Gods, please let this be a good thing for them, a legacy, a blessing, and not a painful reminder. "She has two other husbands, a tiefling and an aasimar, plus her manservant, who was a merikos minotaur who might..."

Coquette Blacquin

"Bull was sterile," says Noire, a little curtly. "My wife ensured that."

GamesMaster

"Tiefling.... no," says Cibek, rolling the bones again. "Aasimar.... no."

Zevran

"Umm." Zevran stares. "...strix?" he asks weakly, starting to look panicked.

Coquette Blacquin

"There's no way," protests Coquette.

GamesMaster

"No," grunts Cibek, after rolling the bones once again.

Zevran

"Ce-- Coquette?" Zevran did not squeak the name, nor did he stammer it.

It was more a whimper really.
