Jassinth

"Oh honey, you could do so much better," Jassinth says earnestly.

GamesMaster

"I really can't," she says quietly. "I'm not... yasashii enough. Once my family had the kind of prestige to let people overlook that, but not any longer. Now our family is ruined, and it's up to me to find security where I can or else I'll be out on the streets. He's an Eel, so when the chips fall, he'll end up with a lot of our money and power."

Jassinth

"Was ruined," Jassinth counters with irrepressible charm. "But now your sister is returned, with an outblooded child and under the shelter of the Oak's boughs. Plus my own humble self. Things are not as they were this morning."

"If the child is born before Great-great Grandfather dies," counters Tsukikage. "Which is unlikely."

Jassinth

"Would it be better than to establish a new family instead?" Jass asks, glancing from her to her sister.

Shisou

"We'd be starting from nothing. Almost literally; these trunks and those goods are all I own in the world. And Tsuki wouldn't necessarily be able to help, either. She'd still be a Cicada."

Jassinth

"We could adopt her," Jass suggests and asks both. "And the goods you were sent with are far from 'nothing,' Shiori. The herbs and sap alone are with thousands of gold, easily. Add the woods, the furs, the seeds... Twenty thousand all told, perhaps? Not an endless fortune, no, but hardly nothing. Plus we have our skills. And, again, our Blessings and mission."

Shisou

"Goods are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them," Shiori corrects. "Perhaps I can get their full value, but perhaps not. It's a gamble."

GamesMaster

"Well there's no money left in our family coffers, at least not for our household," says Tsukikage. "I've been selling my gowns to pay the oracle. Speaking of which, she'll be here tomorrow."

Jassinth

Jass makes a bit of a face at Tsuki's comment but glances at Shiori first. "And sometimes they pay more than they're worth. Also, why an oracle?" he asks, a hint of disdain slipping into his tone on the word.

GamesMaster

"I'm hardly going to wait until I'm showing to be wed," she says dismissively. "They can divine if I'm pregnant or not."

Shisou

"Mundane healers are less trusted than those who speak with the gods," Shiori cuts in, "and priests and the like tend to be more expensive than oracles. It's a compromise, and not a bad one. They can also prove that I'm who I say I am, since I'm sure you're still worried about that."

GamesMaster

"Less and less," says Tsuki. "I'm glad the stutter went away. I know how much you hated it."

Jassinth

How much more for a real priest? Putting the thought aside, Jass focuses on the other matter. "Confirming your identity will be good, yes," he allows, grinning. "I did not met Shiori prior to her healing but I have met a few others so I can see why those who do not know her personally would be doubtful even after interaction. Also, we need to get-- and vet-- you a personal healer before too much longer."
