"Yes." A pause. "Is your father, by any chance, a mushroom? Some sort of sentient fungus?"

[Jassinth]

"What?" Jass blurts out, then begins to laugh hysterically. Waving his hands in wordless apology and request for patience both, he manages to control himself quickly enough. "Sorry, just--" He coughs, a hint of a laugh in it. "No, he's merikos orc. However, he is a mycologist. Ah, he studies fungi, mostly mushrooms. His particular focus is in the search for low effort, high nutrition crops that can thrive in non-traditional locations."

[Shiori]

"Oh! I suppose that makes sense as well. I was thinking, you know, how there are so many plant folk in Raplin's domain, and... I suppose I went overboard. My apologies."

[Jassinth]

"For what?" Jass asks curiously, still smiling. "You gave no offense..."

[Shiori]

"Oh good, I was worried I had." She smiles. 

[Jassinth]

"You are far too hard on yourself," Jass murmurs, leaning in to kiss her on the forehead. 

[Shiori]

"I think you put more value on an apology than I do," she comments. "Here, saving face by offering apologies pre-emptively is the norm, not a sign that I am hard on myself."

[Jassinth]

"Saving what?" Jass asks, pulling back so he can look at her.

[Shiori]

"Saving.. face? Is that not the right word in Common?" She repeats it in Tengu, not that that helps much. "It is what makes people respect you. The, ah, the outward expression of your inner honor and dignity."

[Jassinth]

"So it's... reputation? But specifically about your honorability and, ah, the respect you deserve due to your reputation?" Jass offers after a moment's consideration.

[Shiori]

"Yes, I would say so. It all comes down to how well you uphold wa, or, um... group harmony? The feeling of everyone being together and united?"

[Jassinth]

"Don't rock the boat?" Jass says with a grin.

[Shiori]

"and patch any leaks, yes." She grins back. 

[Jassinth]

"I should warn you that I've been known to create a wave or two," Jass admits, an unapologetic but mildly rueful smile forming. "It, ah, it might be wise to go over some of the biggest, hmm, taboos, I suppose?"

[Shiori]

"...can we kiss more, first?" she asks, shyly. "By my people's law I am engaged to Bright Maeve, but you are her representative, and... I liked the kissing."
