Go Down

Lux

Krem's awakening was a stark difference from his fading. He was still in pain. Quite a bit of pain, to be honest. But it was a dull pain, a deep-set ache and a mild sort of itchy, almost burning, pain where he recalled his deepest wounds being. It was also almost pitch black, with just a faint line of illumination coming from under a door. But the scents around him are familiar; lavender, peppermint and vanilla candlewax.

The fine linen sheets above and below him were also a pretty strong indicator that he'd reached his destination, though not as telling as the soft harp music playing outside the room.

Krem winces a little, realizing how messy he must have made these exquisite sheets -- the sheets probably cost more than he made in a month and here he was bleeding on them. But when he opens one eye, it's not as bad as he feared -- his wounds seem to have been bandaged while he was out.

"'ello?" he calls, in more of a groan than a cry.

Lux

There was a stretch of quiet before the door cracks open a scant inch. Much lower down than Krem would have expected, he spied a head of raven-wing curls framing the cutest button nose. Then the eyes vanished, the soft patter of tiny feet are heard and--

"Tio! Tio, Cappin K is woked up!"

The 'hushed' shout interrupts the harp music, replacing it with a lovingly exasperated sigh. A murmur of something is the prelude to a gentle tapping on the doorframe. "Captain Krem?" Lux's voice.

"Think tha's me, unless he hit my head real hard," quips Krem, still sounding rough. "When is it?"

Lux

"Just over twenty hours since you collapsed on our front door," Lux informed him gently. "You... were in much need of rest and comfort." That was putting it lightly; it had taken him, his brother and Nathaniel nearly four hours to clean, treat, and bandage the poor man.

Krem snorts. "No shit. I lost a fight, that happens." He slowly starts to move, checking what hurts, what his range of motion is.

Lux

Shitty, but much better than he'd feared. Better than he'd assumed even. His ribs are the worst of the real injuries. Nothing feels entirely broken, but given that he'd been wrapped rightly just above his belly button, he figured the ache and stiffness is from cracked bone, not just bruised. The last two fingers on his right hand were in splints and there was a brace around his right knee. Krem can vividly recall that asshole kicking at the side of his knee. No bone ache, so it was probably some torn ligaments.

Other than those, he had a lot of surface level pain. Mostly just skin, but clear into muscle in a few places. His back got the worst of it, though his right forearm was shredded pretty badly. Krem made a mental note that this particular Breathing Weapon, as Varisia enjoys calling her elite slaves, noticeably favors attacking from the left. The worst patches were covered with gauze, with the rest just coated in ointment. He'd also been cleaned head to toe, including fresh clothes of the finest light linen.

"Hungry? Thirsty? Washroom?"

Hurts too much to even think about food. "Could use some water."

Lux

A bit of movement, the sound of liquid being poured. "Here you go. Cool water with some herbs in it, to sooth your throat and make sure you stomach stays even." Not bothering to ask, Lux helped Krem drink instead of just handing the cup over.

Krem gratefully drinks, sitting up just enough to make his ribs scream in pain but allow him to sip before he lays back down. "Shit. I think I'm going to have to rely on your hospitality a few days."

Lux

"Our home is your home," Lux replied so matter-of-factly, so casually, that it has more weight than any dramatically given line could ever have.

"Isn't," he points out. "So I appreciate the hospitality. I couldn't make it back to the servant's quarters." The spy quarters, more like.

Lux

Lux huffed loudly. Then the dark in the room shifted around as he leaned in over Krem. A soft finger, smoother and firmer than was typical for human flesh, flicks against Krem's forehead ever so gently. "Don't be stubborn, you know what I meant. The house isn't ours either, but what home we've managed to make here is open to you, always."

He coughs a little. "Always?" he asks, softly, then shakes his head. "You'll be in serious trouble I bet if you get caught helping me. She likes the loser to feel it."

Lux

"She won't," Lux replied in a bittersweet tone. "That would require her to pay attention to us lowly males."
