Go Down

Toby

As he braids I smile and begin to sing gently "why don't you come why don't you stayi wouldn't mind to see your smile everyday don't  worry I won't bite I won't put up a fuss or a fight so what do you say will you be my mate?" I sing it once through in Wampanoag and once in English.  Once the bride is done I gently kiss his cheek "wonderfully done"

Jamie D'vart

"Your hair smells good."

Toby

"It's the cedar oil, keeps the braid together better."

Jamie D'vart

"...should I grow my hair long like yours?"

Toby

"You don't have too but if you want to you can, I'll even braid it for you." I smile warmly

Jamie D'vart

"I don't know if it'll go as long as yours," he points out.

Toby

"That's ok." I smile gently and ruffle his hair, "come on let's go back."

The next few weeks pass quickly. Between school, training, and pack integration were kept pretty busy. It's nearly the full moon when I get a hit on my latest target.  I smile and grab the keys to my car and head to the school to pick Jamie up. When I get there he's chatting with Tova and some of his school friends

Jamie D'vart

Jamie waves as he sees Toby's car pull up, and grabs Tova's elbow to signal her it's time to go.

Toby

The kids pile in and I head back to the hall. Once we're parked I tug on Jamie's arm leading him silently away from the others towards the lake and out spot on the sandbar.  Only instead i turn towards the shed in the woods. "I got a lead on the hunt." I smile a glint in my eyes

Jamie D'vart

"The-- oh!" he says, looking nervous.

Toby

I lead him gently into the small shed, there's a desk with a laptop and papers on it. A map hanging on the wall, a book shelf  and a card table with two chairs. It's fairly Iroquois. "If you're not up for hunting you can always read a book, but I want you to be involved or at least keep a watch on time so I don't get to lost in it."

Jamie D'vart

"Can you... tell me about him? About why...?"

Toby

"Her actually. Mary Williams. East side Chicago. Runs a home for high risk girls. Girls that have been in the system along time, girls with a history of running away, girls with mental and physical illnesses, girls with magic or furs, basically girls no one wants or cares about that won't be looked at if they go missing. Which is exactly what's happening. Her house is a revolving door of missing kids. And the only reason I know about it is a buddy of mine from basic got his kid taken cause he doesn't have a pack and she ended up there. He got here back but the things she was saying about it are worrying. He couldn't get anyone to look into it though, given she has a good enough record for this kind of thing, still the more digging I do the more I believe Annie. Those girls aren't running off, some are being sold for pelts, others for sex. The hit was on another girl who was in that house, she posted a public letter before she committed suicied. Lays out all the horrors of that place. Pad locked fridge, cameras in the shower, men coming at all hours, torture, forced labor, all types of abuse. And it seams like it's all the tip of the iceberg so I'm doing more digging."

Jamie D'vart

"Shouldn't... the police be told?"

Toby

"They have been but they don't care. Jamie no one in power cares about kids like this. They just don't. I got lucky. I ended up with a foster mother who loved me and cared about me but that's not the norm. Abuse is the norm in the foster system.that's why no one bats an eye when it's reported."
