[Charon Tethras]

"I'm open to any sort of job that's done on your feet," he agrees, nodding. "Alright. Tomorrow, then."

[Father Lelldorin]

"I believe I can find something you're able and willing to do," Lelldorin agrees with a faint smile. "For the afternoons or evenings, that is. Mornings are reserved for lessons."

"Lessons?"

Looking just a touch taken aback at the eager interest in Dil's voice, the priest nods. "Yes... Nyra's laws are very clear on the necessity of basic education for all citizens." Which are technically aimed at children, which you both surely are, but I so no reason to force that topic for now.

[Charon Tethras]

"We've been to school," he says, affronted. "Can read and write and everything. In two languages!"

[Diligence]

"I can read and write in four," Dil chimes in. "Uh, I'm not blind really, it's just bright."

[Father Lelldorin]

"Bright? Ah, of course. You have the eyes of your ancestors. Come, let's move our conversation to my office, where I can lower all the lights save for a candle. Will that be--"

[Diligence]

"That would be great!" Dil blurts out, thrilled at the idea of being able to fricken see properly.

[Charon Tethras]

"Sorry, Dil. I was hoping it'd be better indoors." Charon grabs Dil's hand again, moving after Lelldorin into his office. 

[Diligence]

"It is," Dil rushes to reassure Charon. "It's like eye-stabbing outside, this is just bright."

[Charon Tethras]

Charon nods. "You brought your goggles, right? Oh, that's right, you were wearing them yesterday."

[Diligence]

Dil's tail skips to the left slightly as he chirps a vaguely affirmative sound. That's one of Dil's tells but Charon is certain he saw them just yesterday so...

[Charon Tethras]

"Dil..." he begins, then switches to Necril. "Why no wear eyes today?"

[Diligence]

"You're being silly, I've absolutely got eyes under my bandages," Dil offers with a smile. But just for a second, before he realizes that Charon knows that smiling is unnatural to kobolds (or at least Dil) and that he only does it when he's trying to be reassuring/friendly extra hard.

[Charon Tethras]

"Dil." Charon's apparently done playing around, his tail lashing. "What did you do?" 

[Diligence]

Dil hunches in a little, then sighs. "...Joy was hungry," he finally admits. 

[Charon Tethras]

So you let her EAT them? thinks Charon for a minute before it clicks. "Dil... I could have... you know... done something. You need those."
