Charon Tethras

Charon raises a paw. "I can do some basic spells as well. Mostly rituals, but I can detect and read magic."

Father Lelldorin

"A solid start to many caster's careers. Do you wish to attend the magic topic classes as well then?" Before he can continue or Charon can answer, there's a gentle thud at the door, then a low 'booof.'

"Ah, that would be Dog and your sister. Could you..?"

Charon Tethras

Charon hops up, moving to open the door for the pair of them.

Joy stares at Charon a minute, eyes wide and sparkling. "I love this dog. Can we keep a puppy?"

"No."

Father Lelldorin

"Ah, those puppies already have an owner," Lelldorin interjects smoothly. "Their mother is ill so Dog and Loup-- the animal companion of T, the young women you first spoke with-- have been watching them during the day. Their owner helps her watch them at night but can't take them to work so..."

Joy pouts, but accepts this.

Charon Tethras

"Besides, where would we keep a dog?" Charon adds.

Diligence

"You know, I bet we could animate a dead puppy easily enough," Dil ponders, tone absent and mind entirely disconnected to any and all context of his ponderings in relation to, well, anyone around him (except maybe Charon).
All I really want from life is a cozy den, my real family, good food
and a couple dozen skeleton servants.

Charon Tethras

Charon kicks him -- though there's no table to hide the action. "Hah, what a jokester you are."

Diligence

"Hey! What jo--oooke yes, that one?"
All I really want from life is a cozy den, my real family, good food

Charon Tethras

"Nobody reanimates their pets in Nyra, of course, it's unsanitary." Or something. Charon has learned within the first few days of living here just what most of his neighbors think of undead.

Father Lelldorin

"Necromancy is not illegal in Nyra," Lelldorin says calmly. "It does require licensing however, and the raising of permanent undead involves some paperwork. And I believe they're taxed, though I don't know the details at the moment. Ah, the use of sophont remains is also rather complicated, involving the permission of the sophont prior to their death being confirmed by... Someone. Again, I'm afraid I don't know the specifics." He nods at Charon, adding, "but yes, there is a general distaste towards undead by the populace driven by the actions of violent and cruel necromancers, the instinctive disgust for rotting flesh and the predatory nature of nearly all unbound undead."

Diligence

Dil stiffens, expression growing outraged. "Rotting flesh? What sort of hack=job buffoons are animating around here?" he demands hotly.
All I really want from life is a cozy den, my real family, good food
and a couple dozen skeleton servants.

Charon Tethras

"Dil," he snaps.

Diligence

Dil huffs, crossing his arms. "Hrrmph," he grumbles, then begins muttering under his breath about sloppy, ham-fisted dabblers and incompetent dullards. In fairness, Sweetwater animates a lot of undead for the sole purpose of growing and harvesting food, both animal and plant. As such, their standards for clean and sanitary undead are leagues above the typical necromancer. Undead are either clean bone covered with clothing and cloth masks or zombies of the Withered or Preserved variation, meaning their flesh rejects the growth of molds, parasites' and such and doesn't decompose or slough off.

Father Lelldorin

"...I gather you're both from Sweetwater?" Lelldorin asks after a small moment of awkward silence.
