Charon Tethras

Charon blinks. "Free... school? Why? Oh, because it's an Alydran city?" He squints a little. "Are you one of those Truthers?"

Father Lelldorin

"I... am not, thought by your phrasing I feel mildly concerned about your history or preconception with that sect."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Charon Tethras

"I heard about them one time. One of them came to town and pissed off my foster-father at the time. Said he was a sinner for telling stories and he deserved punishment for his wicked ways."

Father Lelldorin

Ah. Not as bad as I feared but still regrettable. "Truthers, as you might be aware, have very strong prohibitions about telling lies, of any kind, for any reason. It is... not an entirely unreasonable or even problematic belief but it can easily cause problems. Especially when interreacting with those that are not so dedicated to truths. I, myself, do not consider myself to be a part of any particular sect or movement in Alydra's church, though if I were asked to pick what concept defines my worship and service, it would be Education." These days anyway, and grateful I am for finding my way to this now.
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Charon Tethras

"Ah. So you're just going to get upset when you find out I'm uneducated."

Father Lelldorin

"Sad-- and yet hopeful," Lelldorin corrects Charon with a gentle smile. "A lack of education is not a sin, nor a flaw. If anything, such labels should be applied to those that have refused or prevented you from gaining that education. And I would move to offer you such, as best as I am able and you are willing."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

"Me too!" Dil pipes up, then adds, "so does Joy."
All I really want from life is a cozy den, my real family, good food
and a couple dozen skeleton servants.

GamesMaster

Joy makes a face. "Hate school," she mutters.

Diligence

"Don't care," Dil says stoutly. "You don't have to take any of the extra stuff, but you need to learn the basics."
All I really want from life is a cozy den, my real family, good food
and a couple dozen skeleton servants.

GamesMaster

"But whyyy? I can read and write, that's good enough!"

Diligence

"You can read and write your name and maybe fifty other words at most," Dil counters, his voice firm but the hug he gives loving and kind. "There's so much more out there, Joy. I know it's real hard to make the letters stay still, but you gotta try."
All I really want from life is a cozy den, my real family, good food

Father Lelldorin

"Letters stay still?" Lelldorin interjects smoothly.

Joy makes a face. "They're so small and they all look the same."
