"...I got a place for tonight," she says, doubtfully. "What kind of arrangements?"

"Some legal documents and setting up a contract of sorts. Nothing malicious, I assure you." HE gave a bit of a smile. "...What sort of issues, if you do not mind me asking?"

She looks away, feeling ashamed and acutely uncomfortable -- so, as usual, she responds with anger and defensiveness. "The usual sort. I'm not a sweet enough dollie for daddy to show off to his friends. Too many teeth."

Mr. Harrox chuckled a little. "That is always the way. Give them a women that is more than docile and everyone suddenly feels they should be on guard. All to make up for their own failings." He shook his head. "A common trend that I find...disappointing. If something does not act according to how you have planned, it is more likely your plan that requires adjustment." Huh...and he actually seemed to talk like she was an injured party rather than assuming she was just too prickly.

She nods. "It's not like they were welcoming or nothin'. Always treating me like dirt under their shoes someone tracked in."

[CalamityJade]

"A shame as well. Rather than nurture someone that may have a different insight, they scorn you. I do deeply have to apologize for that. Unfortunately, some of the welcomed are...less than accommodating."

Her expression darkens. "Greedy fucks just take what they want, no regard for other people."

[CalamityJade]

"Thankfully, that is not all of us." Harrox gave a bit of a nod as he spoke. "That is exactly my point. You have a different view of the Welcomed. One that we should greatly take into consideration."

She squints at him, suspiciously. "Why?"

[CalamityJade]

"Well, how does a group improve if it cannot see itself as others see it. If we ignore your reactions and opinions as simply noise, how do we improve?" Harrox gave a small sigh. "We are the Welcomed...and if we cannot improve the city that's blessed us, then how are we deserving of it?"

"Seems like a pretty shit blessing to me. Turns you into an asshole and you can't even leave."

[CalamityJade]

"Huh..that is an interesting thought. Why is it that you believe we are unable to leave the city. The country is actually very nice in the fall, from what I've heard from others."

"Well isn't that what they say? You can't ever leave, not permanently?"

[CalamityJade]

"A bunch of superstition. Why would you think that was ever true?"

She blinks at him, squinting. "....What's superstition?"
