Tale as Old As Time [Finished]

Siegfried hesitates. "While he has opened up more in the past few days than in the years prior.... I have no faith that, unguided, he would recover, and very little faith in my ability to guide him without causing another downward spiral. In truth, he reminds me of yourself in some ways, and I had hoped that you would have advice."

A rather humorless chuckle escapes Obsidian's lips at Siegfried's words. "And so you think I could...if he's like I was, then the only thing that's going to get through his thick head will need to be pounded into it."

He took a few moments to think. "And there's lots of reasons for me to be here...but as far as everything to the legal system and police investigators I was raising fighting dogs for sport and they got loose. Apparently I have a rather bad time with animals. Pretty sure they think that's the important one, given the big tragety of  the 'upstanding members of the Roidmet family being struck down while the uncooth dregs remain.' Least that's what the papers said."

Siegfried flinches at that quote, looking at his lap.

"But the papers didn't have the truth, not by a long shot. Certainly they would not have understood the truth, there are few enough that believe these days, there was no sense in revealing all. but the media has had their field day and the fire has long died. if the family wishes to rise again it will face resistance, just as any other would, but would it not be worth it to see those that you love grow and flourish?"

"That HAS to be the truth!" Obsidian snapped quickly at Echo. "Or all that's happened is a lot of wasted time and pain for nothing." He took a few slow breaths. "The past either stays dead or it comes back long enough to drag you down with it." Or, in some cases reaches someone with enough knowledge to piece things together.

"The truth is that the majority of my family died and I made mistakes that let it happen. There is no reason to believe otherwise, since every other explination causes MUCH more damage. It's a simple story that everyone can agree on."

Siegfried's hands quiver, but he takes a deep breath, willing them to still. When he speaks, his voice is soft, but clear: "The past has never been dead for Lance."

Echo smiles wryly at Obsidian's outburst

"This one know one truth is never the truth. one can never know the whole truth. This one thinks that you have been here for the past ten years on a false charge, but that is not the point. This one thinks that the master would benefit if you were to come home, and this one believes that if you wanted to you could very soon be home, and legally too."

Echo stands and bows to Obsidian.

"Thank you for your time. This one has learned much from this meeting as this one hopes you have as well. Good day and fare well. This one would retreat for now and wait outside while you and Siegfried finish catching up. If that suits?"

Obsidian frown actually seemed to deepen as Echo finished. This man wasn't stupid...which might be a problem later, but he needed to deal with it for now...but first. "Are you doing that on purpose?" He was SURE that he'd never used I and that was very...catching, especially since he was sure it was happening and not some weird thing wrong with his head.

Echo pauses for a long moment, thinking. finally he speaks.

"this one.... this one is guessing you are referring to one's speech? If that is the case this one must answer in the affirmative. It has been... a very long time, since this one lost the right to refer to one in the first. That day this one lost many things, and for a time one wished to end it. but this one could not, such was ones burden. so this one lives on while one who should have in ones place does not."

Echo slowly sits down again, no longer looking Obsidian in the eyes.

"You have lost much, and under not dissimilar circumstances to this one. the master has lost far more, and worse knows exactly how and why. That claws at him much as ones loss claws at this one e'en today... it is painful, but it can be bourne, but it does not have to be so for the master..."

Obsidian mulls over that for quite a few moments before giving a sigh. "Well shit...not exactly in a position to say much about that." He scratches his chin as he thinks. "And the both of you think seeing me is going to help him?"

For the first time since he entered the room, Obsidian seems to relax his analyzing gaze and somewhat hard stance. For whatever reason, he seems willing to consider rather than simply hearing what they're saying and finding what parts of it he disagreed with.

Siegfried hesitates. "I pray it is so," he says, finally. "I don't think I can help him any more than I have. He's tried to fire me already."

"This one thinks your presence would help. if nothing else it should shake him loose from the past and force him to deal with the present."

[CalamityJade]

Obsidian scoffs at that. "I doubt that.." But Siegfried actually came here to see him, and considering he'd been lax on visitors for some time, that did mean something...even IF he had been preparing for something different.

"Parol has been up four times...almost like they wanna get rid of me. Figured they have someone they think is a real scumbag that needs a spot in a cell." He gives a bit of a sigh. "So I guess I'll have to actually talk to someone about it. Think we have enough time for that?"

Siegfried nods. "I'll make sure to grease some wheels on my way out," he adds again. "It would be nice to serve someone who... is more present."

Echo nods and stands as the other two also stand

"Well then, Thank you. This one will wait outside while you do what you need to do. This one has learned that this one's.... scars... make guards nervous and it would be best not to make them more nervous than needed."
