Echo nods and stands.

"In this case this one will wait in the parlor. do not rush your conversation on one's account. this one has a good book that this one will get a start on."

"I doubt we will be long...and if it is truly distressing, I can stop. It is just...rather interesting and things like this tend to have causes that one might not know of. At the very least, it can lead to finding what it is you seem to be searching out." Morden adjusted his glasses and sighed. This WAS a problem he had, but for the most part, it was out of wanting to understand rather than malice or greed for knowledge.

Echo nods kindly, but does not reply to Morden as he leaves the room, the signs of distress melting away as he moves.

Siegfried sighs, rubbing at his temples as he waits for Echo to be properly out of earshot. Where to begin... it still feels strange for him to be discussing other people's painful secrets, rather than concealing them behind a wall of silence.

Morden gave a sigh as Echo left. He didn't say he didn't want him to find out, just that he didn't wish to be present. "With the little I've observed, I cannot blame him for not wishing to be present. I do not believe he likes doubting his own senses."

"I do not believe he would tell us if he was uncomfortable. He is.. frustratingly taciturn at times."

"It would appear so. I believe either he does not have the ability to do so, or he feels that it would cause more issues for others than what could be solved." Morden turned fully to Siegfried. "What do you believe?"

"I... am not certain." He fiddles with the edge of his uniform, lost in thought for a moment.

"He spoke of a woman, Sylphia. He talked about losing her, or rather, causing her death. There was a curse of some kind -- over and over again, she is reincarnated only for him to lose her again. He spoke of the cycle repeating fifty times.

When I was inside his mind... there was a dire warning, that I should not be there, that it was dangerous. I barely escaped before... there was some kind of attack, almost like an explosion of fangs. My mentor had no idea what might cause that. I wonder if perhaps... this scouring of his memories may be related?"

Morden scratched his chin. "Possible...you said something was 'gone' when you mentioned your conversation a few moments ago. Do you believe that what you sensed and what warned you before is the same thing?" That would make some sort of sense. If it's some sort of actual curse, it would possibly have to be quite powerful to instigate that sort of thing. It would need to keep him alive, allow him to do what he does, as well as remove certain information...hmm.

"Perhaps there is another reason for removing the information. I would imagine that if he was fated to constantly find and lose the same person, it was to be a punishment. Removing the memory of that person would...lessen the impact, don't you think?"

"It was a presence... probably a person, since it had distinct emotions. Possibly a dead person. I have no idea if it's the same one." Siegfried mulls over what Morden has said, frowning slightly.

Morden nodded. "Not enough information to be sure, at least." He sighed. "In Julie's note, she mentioned that same name....Maybe I should try finding more out about this woman. If she was someone seen several times and anything like Echo, then I doubt they'd be able to keep from leaving some sort of trail...or if they've met before, we can trace back Echo himself."

Siegfried nods. "A time-travel spell would really come in handy," he muses, off-handedly.

Morden chuckles. "That it would, however, it's rather...improbable and very dangerous to use, if such a thing existed. Not something I would want to try."

[yamikuronue]

"Even just viewing the past.... Ah well. What's done is done."

[CalamityJade]

"For now, I would concentrate on finding more about Sylphia...we should also see if anything else triggers him to do the same thing." Morden gave a small smile. "I guess this will not be a boring vacation, then."
