Go Down

With Echo gone and Rosanna moving on to new employment, the "servants wing" contained only Siegfried, Morden, and Julie (when she was in town), making for a peaceful little corner when the baby was napping. Siegfried had set up a crib in his room for Grace, and he seemed to be taking his duty toward her seriously.

Take last night, for example. The crying had woken Morden three times, but each time, within a few minutes, the noise had hushed and calm returned. Nevertheless, when Morden woke at 7, there were fresh towels laid out in the restroom and the smell of cinnamon permeated the air.

Morden wasn't sure how he managed it, but he WAS sure what he'd see when he headed for the kitchen. He went through his normal morning routine of 'making his face' as he put it. Sure, he'd shown Siegfried what he normally looked like, but that was different in his mind. Contacts in and make-up on, he headed down to see exactly HOW tired Siegfried would have to be after being up most of the night.

Siegfried's face is a smooth mask of pleasantries, save for the bags under his eyes. He's pulled on a white button-down shirt and navy slacks; not quite the uniform he once wore, but if he put on the coat, it would be a close approximation.  His red-brown hair is pulled into a perky ponytail, but he's left the usual apron on its peg by the back door. A cast iron skillet is heating on the stove, and a package of bacon open beside it; the oven is clearly on, and a digital timer ticks down twenty-some-odd minutes.

"Good morning. I was just about to put on the coffee, if you would like?"

CalamityJade

Morden gave something of a sigh and a smile. It was admirable for him to do this, but...it wasn't as if taxes and accounting were the only reasons he was here." You know, you don't always have to jump from bed. As much as I'm somewhat surprised that you are as adept to putting her back to sleep as you are." He looked around a little. "Where IS the coffee pot, anyway?"

yamikuronue

Siegfried turns around, startled, and sheepishly fetches the coffeepot from the sink where he'd left it after filling it. "My apologies."

As he moves to pour the water into the reservoir of the coffeemaker (not the French Press this morning?), he speaks again. "I am used to going without sleep. It is no hardship to me."

CalamityJade

Morden made something of a face. "Siegfried...you do realize that you do not need to make me coffee." Why WAS he acting this proper. He had assumed that Siegfried would be more relaxed, as Morden wasn't a tenant or superior, but here he was. "Which is why you're leaving things places and look like you could use another few hours of sleep?

yamikuronue

Siegfried makes a face. "Do you think the Young Master will notice?" He then gives a sheepish grin. Lance? Notice anything right under his nose? "Nevermind."

CalamityJade

"I know that I do, and that I do not want you to lose out on sleep every night like that." Morden gave a bit of a sigh. "And if your worry is him, I do not believe he would be able to hear the crying from his room...at least I assume not."

yamikuronue

Siegfried waves a hand. "I don't want you to lose sleep either. As I said, I will be--"

He straightens, tugging on his shirt slightly to make it fall nicer, and turning toward the door just as it opens. Lance gives a yawn as he stumbles into the room, plopping into his spot. "Yo." he says, sleepily.

Siegfried starts the coffeemaker, moving to hover his hand over the iron pan. "Good morning, Young Master. Coffee will be up momentarily."

"Cool." Lance folds his arms on the table, putting his head down and closing his eyes.

CalamityJade

Morden looked between Lance and then Siegfried. He was fairly sure he didn't hear Lance coming, so Siegfried obviously had a way of knowing someone was coming. More importantly, he was quick to clean himself up? "Morning...though it would seem like you're still quite asleep."

yamikuronue

"Yeah." Lance keeps his head down, though he turns it slightly to respond to Morden.

He can almost picture it: Siegfried giving a wicked little smile and glibly saying something like, "late night?" Or him becoming a bit pinched, a bit drawn, and asking the same thing in a concerned tone, maybe with a hand to the back to comfort him. Siegfried could sit beside him and take his hand and express his concern. He could chide him the way Morden had.

Instead, he adds bacon to the pan, breaking it up with a fork as he does so, silent, as if a ghost or a machine.

CalamityJade

Morden gave Siegfried an 'are you alright' sort of look before seeming to give Lance a shrug. "You know, if you're going to be that tired, you should probably try and get more sleep."

yamikuronue

Lance lets out a soft growl, but catches himself up short and sits up. "...Don't talk to me before I've had my--"

"Coffee, sir?" asks Siegfried, softly, from Lance's elbow. He's placed a mug beside Lance, and is holding the freshly brewed coffee. Well, enough for two cups anyway; he's paused the coffeemaker to get it out sooner.

"God yes." Lance groans, slumping back to let Siegfried pour. He swallows a hasty gulp of it almost the moment Siegfried stops, as he's stepping back to go around behind Lance's chair to morden's.

"Coffee?" The only acknowledgment of Morden specifically he makes is in leaving off the honorific; otherwise, his tone is identical: a soft, pleasant, polite tone.

CalamityJade

"Um...alright, but you could sit and have a cup yourself." Morden didn't mind the lack of honorifics, but noticed the fact that Lance had his, despite them being the only ones here. "I'm sure no one'll mind if you do." And at that, he kept some of his attention on Lance. He was...somewhat sure what the relationship was there, but that didn't mean he was going to let him off the hook if he WAS doing this because of Lance.
