The Amell Legacy: Transgressions

[Marian Hawke]

"I suppose," she says, sounding dubious. "But there's so many ways to worship each god -- seems like as long as I'm making a real effort, he'll take me, right?"

[Varric]

"As long as you're at least close, yes." Varric shrugs a little. "But gods are like most anything- once you start, once you pick up the habit, it gets easier to keep going. To accept parts of the doctrine you weren't aware of before, that you wouldn't have accepted at the start. Just never one for agreeing to a deal without knowing the full scope, if not the details."

[Marian Hawke]

"You can't ever know everything," she argues. "You can't ever know the full scope, not with gods involved."

[Varric]

Rolling his eyes, he smirks. "Your Alydra is showing. I am aware I cannot know the entirety of a deity's dogma, but I can know the shape of it."

[Marian Hawke]

"You can see the primer if you want. It's got a pretty broad shape."

[Varric]

"Sure, wouldn't mind looking it over with you. Maybe over breakfast tomorrow?  Late breakfast, maybe, depending on how card night goes."

[Marian Hawke]

She nods. "Alright. We'll do that. But in the meantime, I'm going to go meet some of the locals, try to get my mind off things."

[Varric]

"Good plan. Might want to duck in and say hi with a smile to make sure Storm is aware you're not pissed at him."

[Marian Hawke]

She nods. "Alright. I will. Thank you."

[Varric]

"Good- and conveniently, that brings us back around to you feeling helpless and angry about what was done to your brother. And sister. And you. And probably Seeks and maybe Shiny."

[Marian Hawke]

"Doubt Gamlen's ever met Seeks or Shiny," she grunts. Dammit. I almost got away with it. Where'd I go wrong?

[Varric]

"True, but I equally doubt that it's just his bullshit that annoys, hurts and frustrates you," Varric counters. "Given that these feelings are pushing you to change patrons, they seem pretty important."

[Marian Hawke]

"Not just this. I've been thinking about it for a while."

[Varric]

"I would hope not just this- big choice to make of a petty little shit of a man." 

[Marian Hawke]

"I was speaking with Lightsong about gods," she admits. "And before then, even. Alydra's always been the safe choice, the easy one. Well, I'm smart enough for it. And knowledge is important. The schools are good, a real benefit to the community. But is that really the life I want? I could publish research and not follow Alydra. Is my brain the most important part of me? It just seems like the angry part of me is the better part. The more important part."
