Helene shakes nir head. "This one has delusions. They are a symptom, nothing more. This one will be a good girl."

[Varric]

''Will you bark on command as well?'' Varric says bitingly. ''Gods, at least say woman.''

[Helene Dakesh]

Helene flinches, lowering her gaze to her sketchbook. "Understood," she whispers, in a flat tone, eyes distant. "This one will behave appropriately. This one will be a good woman."

[Varric]

Varric sits up, frowning. ''The hells was that?''

[Helene Dakesh]

Helene flinches again, holding very still, quiet, waiting for commands.

[Varric]

Varric stares a long moment. ''...oh hells no. I am not a duergar,'' he growls. ''And you are not replacing those bastards with me. You think for yourself and make up your own damn mind. You're brilliant, with an education that any archmage or tower sage would be grateful for. Use your mind and think.''

[Helene Dakesh]

"This one's mind is defective," she whispers. "This one desires the impossible. This one desires also things that cannot be desired. This one serves, instead. Always serves."

[Varric]

''Bullshit,'' Varric says instantly, without any real thought. ''Nothing is impossible. Prohibitively difficult sure, but not impossible.''

[Helene Dakesh]

"This one cannot be made anew. Such a thing is impossible."

[Varric]

''Made... anew? Clarify please?''

[Helene Dakesh]

"This one was made-- no. It is a delusion. I know this. The delusion is that this one was formed incorrectly. That this one's shell does not match this one's soul. But this is delusion. This one was made exactly as Alydra requested. This one has nothing wrong with this one's physical form. This one has verified."

[Varric]

Shell was made wrong? What... ''Verified how? Verified what?''

[Helene Dakesh]

"This one's shell was not formed incorrectly, but this one... believes it was. This one has delusions of... This one has delusions about this one's form. This one verified that no mistake was made."

[Varric]

''Again, verified how?''
