Varric

"Another symptom of Deity sensitivity, I wager," Varric offers after a moment. "You followed Alydra's teachings for a long time, makes sense you'd have, ah, residual protectiveness."

Marian Hawke

Marian nods. "Maybe I should go back to them. Her. I always liked her for Alydra."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"It's a valid option but you should hold off for now. Settle more into yourself, don't, heh, don't make any impulsive purchases. I get the impression that you won't be able to change faiths easily. Or perhaps at all."

Marian Hawke

Marian shivers. "I know. I just... I need to pick soon. I'm not sure how long I can..."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Do I have permission to smack you, verbal preferred, if I catch you... drifting, so to speak?" he asks, tone only half joking.

Marian Hawke

"Of course." She smiles a little. "If you think it'd help."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

She shrugs a shoulder. "So far I've managed. But being scolded helps. Maybe a bucket of cold water if you think I'm going too far into, ah, rapture."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Will do," Varric agrees with a chuckle. "How are things on that front? Picking a deity, I mean."

Marian Hawke

She shakes her head. "Not great. Everything I consider, I love."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Eesh. I can see why that's a problem. You tried going the other way? Starting at what you want in the abstract, then working towards which deity suits that best?"

Marian Hawke

"I'm... not sure what I want," she admits. "nothing evil. That's for damn sure."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Well, that's nearly a third done already them" Varric points out positively.

Marian Hawke

"Unless I fuck up and commit in my sleep," she points out. "So... I don't know. What I want feels really far away, like... nothing I want is remotely possible. Which is stupid," she adds, brushing away tears. "I know I can have at least some of it. I already do. But it feels like I can't."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"I don't think you can commit in your sleep," Varric points out gently. "You have to mean it. Really mean it."
