Varric

"Yeah," Varric says quietly, studying the baby still in Marian's arms. "We'll tell him about Bianca, eventually. But that can wait. For now, he's just a babe who needs to be cared for."

Marian Hawke

"And when we do, we tell him she loved him," says Marian, finally pulling the babe closer to her body again. "That she tried everything, risked everything, to be with him. And when she couldn't, she chose us to raise him for her. It's... best not to talk about his father until he's grown, I think."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Varric hesitates, his preference to teach and instruct warring with his preference to control information to protect people. "Probably wise," he finally allows. "Maybe some references as he gets older but... probably wise."

Marian Hawke

"You should write it all down for him, though. You never know when you might... Well, it's just, by the time he's grown, what if something happens?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"If he can figure out my cyp-- on, you mean like a testament," Varric says, clearing his throat.

Marian Hawke

"Yes, specifically for him. I mean... I was always curious. He might be, too."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"That's fair. Fair bit I don't know about his story though. Gonna take some work to sort out."

Marian Hawke

"Well, you've got time. He's such a bitty thing yet. Can't even read. And he's dwarven, so he'll be bitty for a very long time to come."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Ain't that kind of a terrifying thought," Varric says, expression turning a touch sickly.

Marian Hawke

"What?" asks Marian, blinking.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Being responsible for little Nicky for the next fifty years."

Marian Hawke

"Fif-- Tiefling. Right." She blinks, looking down at the baby. "Huh. Double my whole life so far." Almost more than double all of it, period.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Be just you and Haliel by the time he's settling down, if he plays to the average schedule," Varric confirms.

Marian Hawke

Marian winces, glancing away. "I don't like to think of that."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Not a common thought myself."
