[Marian Hawke]

"It was the most enjoyable day I'd had all month!"

[Varric]

Varric just gives her a flat look. "Connection to last names?"

[Marian Hawke]

"I dunno, it'd be weird to be related to her and also really into her."

[Varric]

"How would that be different than having her as a goodmother?"

[Marian Hawke]

"Well, I mean, I'd have to marry Haliel for that, and uh... I don't know, it's all complicated."

[Varric]

"No, that's entirely fair," Varric says hurriedly. "Marriage is... big."

[Marian Hawke]

"Maybe we make something up? Or. I guess we can use Hawke, if we want."

[Varric]

"Well, it's a solid name, in and of itself," Varric muses. "Air beastie, but a predator. Easy to say and spell for most, which is handy. Short and snappy. Got some baggage to it, but personal, not cultural, which means it can change if you're willing to put in the effort to polish it up and remake the meaning."

[Marian Hawke]

"I wish I knew my dad. I wish I knew if he was a good person or not."

[Varric]

"We could find out," Varric offers carefully. "Between Helene and I, I figure we can dig up whatever there is to learn."

[Marian Hawke]

"Yes," she says instantly. 

[Varric]

Varric snorts. "Well alright then."

[Marian Hawke]

"I really want to know where I came from."

[Varric]

"Can't say as I blame you. Just like little Ricky will want to know his origins one day," Varric says somberly. "Least you can be pretty damn sure there wasn't an infernal pact involved in your conception."

[Marian Hawke]

"Maybe," she mutters. "But I'd not be surprised if mother was a tiefling."
