Haliel Lightsong

"But if you hadn't summoned that ice elemental, I probably wouldn't have gotten back to the dragon before it also killed Feather Jassinth," Haliel admits reluctantly. "And I can't be certain I would have beaten the dragon either. I think I could have but..."
I am the Light of My Soul.

Marian Hawke

"Then..." begins Marian, and she takes a deep, shaky breath. "Then I'm glad I did it," she says, firmly. "But I'm going to have to get better. A lot better. If I summoned an elemental I must have arcane potential. I'm going to need to learn to harness it on purpose."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Haliel Lightsong

Haliel squeezes Marian's hand, eyes wet again. "I'm proud of you," she says softly.
I am the Light of My Soul.

Helene Dakesh

Helene reaches up to tug on Varric's sleeve, then indicates Marian.
"Explain. In detail, please and thank you."

Varric

Varric raises an eyebrow, head cocked to the side. "Sorry?" He keeps his voice low, not wanting to interrupt to the two ladies.

Helene Dakesh

Helene mimes drinking something, then taps nir temple, then gestures from Varric to Marian.
"Explain. In detail, please and thank you."

Varric

A beat later and he nods. "Yeah, I'll be happy to keep teaching her brewing. Unstable or not, she managed a nonlethal, technically working mutagen variation with less then six months of training."

Helene Dakesh

Helene beams at him, nodding once, clearly satisfied.
"Explain. In detail, please and thank you."

Marian Hawke

Marian, on the other hand, glances over to them. "She doesn't want to keep teaching me herself? Sorry, nemself?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Helene Dakesh

Helene frowns, tapping nir lips twice with a finger.
"Explain. In detail, please and thank you."

Varric

"Ne is nonverbal at the moment so..." Varric shrugs. "I get to sub in until ne's able to teach again. Besides, they're a divine caster and you're looking toward arcane, right? Unless you plan to pick up an instrument or learn to sing, I'm the only arcane caster in the..." He thinks a moment, then shrugs. "Only arcane caster in the family, so to speak."

Haliel Lightsong

Haliel grins but wisely doesn't comment on his word choice.
I am the Light of My Soul.

Marian Hawke

Marian smiles a little, but it's a sad smile. "Maybe that's why I keep fucking up. Because this is a family and I'm really bad at families."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Not like any of us have really proven ourselves to be all that great at it either, " Varric points out. "Besides, you're getting better at it: pretty sure pulling off heroics in defense of family is one of those virtues people are always going on about."

Marian Hawke

"Will you show me what I did wrong? With the mutagen? I can get my notebook, I-- well. Nevermind. I won't be in a state to discuss it by the time you figure it out." She grimaces.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.
