Bethany

Beth's smile grows fixed, though only a skilled or very familiar observer might notice. "We do and she was, but it's just us I'm afraid," she says simply. "It... it would be nice, to have an older sister, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards."

Carver Amell

"She's nothing to do with this," says Carver. "I'm the heir. Mother's intent was clear -- I'll guess her... her w-will will say the same."

Aveline Vallen

Aveline studies them both for a moment, then nods. "Understood. Are you... expecting anyone to contest things?" she asks delicately.
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Carver Amell

He shakes his head. "Mother and Uncle are d-dead. Uncle never had children. Father had no other children. Even if they don't believe I'm the heir, the obvious choice is Bethany before any distant cousins."

Bethany

She gave up her chance... if she had been a sister to us, if she had wanted to be family and stayed with us... Well. No sense dwelling over 'if' I suppose. "No, Carver is heir. I won't fight for it. He's had enough taken from him, I will never do that to him."

Aveline Vallen

"Good then. So... so you're willing to come back and make a go at this," Aveline says with a smile. "You have a regent picked out, a rough plan... do you have any other ideas or questions?"
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Carver Amell

"There's... a lot of details to work out," he says slowly. "But I'm not sure I... I'm not sure I can, just now."

He glances down, then, at the shredded pile of uneaten muffin bits. I want a nap.

Merrill

Merrill reaches up with a tiny bit of fruit, a pleading look in her eyes.

Aveline Vallen

"...that's fine. I have a mirror that I can use to contact Lord zi'Ulthlis and inform him of the latest news. You needing... time to recover from a broken curse is entirely reasonable before making the trek back." She considers a moment, then offers, "in fact... I could ask that a transport be sent- city guard or Bright's, whichever you prefer, and some servants perhaps?"
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Bethany

"Gods yes- a carriage and some servants sounds wonderful," Beth says quickly. "The trip here was... very taxing."

Carver Amell

As Carver spies Merrill's expression, his face softens a touch, and he eats the fruit right from her fingertips. Merrill's always so good to me.

Merrill

Merrill beams at him, eagerly cutting up another bit of fruit to give him. "Do you want another soak after lunch?" she asks softly.

Aveline Vallen

Definitely a couple, Aveline notes. And that might be a problem... she seems as skittish as a rabbit. The nobles would tear her apart in five minutes at a party, ten at a show or meeting. Still... she seems to dote on him, which he might need. So... need to figure out a way to keep her safe. Or maybe isolated? "Then I'll take my leave and make that call." She rises, then pauses. "His-paws-are-silent-but-his-growl-is-fierce-in-defense-of-the-righteous mentioned you were taking sword lessons from Ray Lightsong. Is that something you'd like to continue?"
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Bethany

"Who said that?" Beth asks, blinking, then blinks more at Aveline's gesture at her cat.

Carver Amell

That's one of the few things that can tear Carver's attention away from the fruit, from Merrill's fingertips. "Yes."
