"If I may -- perhaps we can begin with the facts of the case?" asks la'Livingstone mildly, unamused by the antics happening before him. We cannot look for inconsistencies in their story until we have heard it.

Bethany

"Where would your Lightships like us to start? With our departure? The reason for it? A brief summation of our life prior, to give proper context?" Beth's questions are sweetly asked, with just a hint of breathy innocence. Most of the Lights will at least suspect she's playing a role, but...

GamesMaster

"Begin with the summation. Context may be vital to understanding," says the tiefling Light, intense gaze fixing upon Bethany.

Bethany

Beth tenses a little, swallowing nervously. Wow. Intense much? "Of course your Lightship," she says cheerfully. "Well, to start..." She trails off for a moment, shaking her head. "Sorry, just... never really had to try and put it all in order, not to someone who didn't know at least some of it first-hand... Anyway. Things were never... great. At home. Mother... she was a very unhappy person. She..." Beth bites her lip, expression going pensieve and distant. "She had two personal alchemists when we were little. Once Jadan- the family's agent and local factor- starting... assisting in personal matters, he took over all of that. Sourcing and providing. That was... pretty typical. As long as Mother got what she needed to feel... not happy, but less unhappy I guess? To feel joy, even fake joy, to feel satisfaction... She didn't care about much else."

GamesMaster

"Do you know what sort of tonics were prescribed?" asks zi'Huntinghawk, now curious.

Bethany

"Ummm. I know some of them? Peaceblossom extract when we were younger. First just some drops in her tea, but later she took it in pill form. Jasmine and lavender oils too, back then. The only one I know she takes- was taking before we left Nyra was..." She frowns, brow furrowing. "Dunlap's admixture? Dovelap's?"

Carver Amell

"Dovelap," says Carver, a dark look crossing his face. "Laudanum tinctures, when she got overwrought. And something called X-F-C."

GamesMaster

Huntinghawk, whose lips had pursed together at 'dovelap', nods once when Carver finishes. "Thank you. No further questions."

The Doctor, meanwhile, openly frowns, looking up from his doodles. "Good Muse," he says, in shock. "What was wrong with her?"

"I am sure only her chemist knows," says Huntinghawk, firmly. Don't pester the children, is the nearly audible subtext.

Bethany

Beth snorts, then winces a little. That was out of character damnit. "I'm afraid that only Mileen could answer that now," she says softly. Which is... I really wanted to demand answers from her about so much. Never going to get that chance now. "Regardless... that was our Mother. As for our Uncle..." She hesitates, glancing at Carver.

Carver Amell

"Uncle was a hard man, cold," says Carver, bluntly. "I don't believe he cared much for children. Not even us."

Bethany

Bethany remembers not to snort, instead shuffling a little closer to Carver and clutching his hand a bit tighter. "He was... invested in maintaining the fiction that Carver was female. He would... What little good in our Uncle was bound entirely up in love for his sister. Mother wanted Carver to be her daughter, and Uncle did whatever he had to ensure we were both dutiful daughters indeed." The grim, yet sorrowful tone she uses is damning. She sniffs a little, resting her head on her twin's shoulder.

A corpulent man- unusual for a kender- scoffs a little. "Do you truly expect this ruling body to buy that line of drivel? To accept that a Light- two Lights in fact- conspired to... what? Use a curse to create a second daughter? For what possible reason! For what purpose? No, it's as clear as day that you are simply spinning moonbeams into diamond," Lord Sage zi'Cambern says in a wheezy voice. Despite his fussy, almost slothful demeanor, his eyes are empty and cold as he looks at the twins.

We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Carver Amell

"It's the truth," Carver snaps. "So you'd best believe it, sir."

NPCs

"And why, pray tell, should we best believe the word of some... 'boy?'" The Light sneers back at him. "I cast no aspersions on Bright's Vallen, of course, but even the best among can be taken in- and paladins are known to often be perhaps too trusting in the good of mortals. But surely my peers are not so willing to be hoodwinked by conman and children? Curses and stories about miracles? Bah! It's clear as day the boy is some cad leading poor Miss Bethany into-"

"That's enough," says Huntinghawk sharply. "Do recall the decorum of this council."
