Guards and Order

Go Down

Solras, The Protector

"We have hours, yes. But the more time we take the more..." She stops talking until they exit the guard station and are swallowed by the crowd in the street outside.

"The longer we take the less time they have to get out of the raid area. The longer they take the more of them that will get hurt tonight." she finally says once confident they won't be overheard buy another guardsperson, revealing her plan to spoil the raid.

Wylde

"Woah, what? Isn't that treason?" asks Wylde, in hushed tones.

Solras, The Protector

"<dwarvish>It is not treason in the eyes of Tak to refuse to follow an order that you know to be wrong.</dwarvish> <common>Come on, we havent got much time if we're to make a difference.</common>"

Wylde

Wylde huffs. "You know I don't speak Dwarf. Solras! You're really going to risk your career, your livelihood, for a bunch of cats? They wouldn't do the same for you!"

Solras, The Protector

"Doesn't matter if they would. Only matters what is right." Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch says, getting rather out of breath, given that she's been running mostly flat out while the longer limbed Wylde could follow at an easy jog.

Wylde

Wylde puts a hand on Solras' shoulder, intending to stop her. "And what if the culprit gets away? What are you thinking to do then? It'd be your fault!"

Solras, The Protector

"We have no name. And a description that could match three in five catfolk, and one in seven humans." Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch snaps, refusing to be slowed. It seems from the clipped tone either Wylde will have to physically restrain the dwarf or work out on her own that there's no way they'll get the actual culprit if there is one anyway. This is about finding someone to blame, not about finding the one who deserves to be blamed.

Wylde

"So what happens if we piss off a Light and lose funding? We could both lose our jobs! For what, so some cats don't get arrested? I'm sure they'll find the right one if we round up enough of them. And they'll let the rest go. No harm, no foul. Right? It'll be fine." Wylde keeps talking as she jogs after Solras, who recalls that she found a catfolk in a pub that one time, that might be a good place to start.

Solras, The Protector

"I do what I know to be right. I feel the rightness of it from the top of my head down to the soles of my feet. You too Must do what you feel is right. But before you act, think if you are doing it because you were told that it is right, or if you do it because you know that it is right." Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch replies, turning a corner looking for the bar she'd been in not that long ago.

"Think back on how the other guards acted. What will they do tonight given the chance, and is that something you support? Because if you participate, or even fail to act to oppose it, then you are supporting it."

"Look," says Wylde desperately. "I need this job. I'm not a leader, when you get down to it. I'm the kind of person who puts faith in others. And I trust you. But I also trust Sgt. Vallen. She wouldn't tell us to do something if it was wrong, would she?"

Solras, The Protector

"She would tell us to do something wrong if she did not believe it was wrong." This is a flat assertion "Or if she was told to tell it to us by those that held the kind of power over her that she holds over you." This is less certain but still firmly stated.

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch slows as she nears the bar, her current destination. She should arrive with enough breath to speak without flopping around on the floor like a dead fish, and Wylde needs to make a decision before they get to the bar.

"I need this job too, without it I would be cast out and homeless. I could survive that, I would survive that, I have survived that, but that is not living. Even so, I will not sell my soul to the bright one by doing something that I know to be wrong. What is planed tonight is wrong and I will do what I must to prevent it. What path do you choose? For you must choose now."

Wylde

"You're so dramatic," says Wylde, with a nervous chuckle. She licks her lips, then, deep in thought. Finally, she shakes her head.

"Sargent Vallen is a Paladin. She wouldn't make us do something wrong. I believe you're doing what you think is right, so I won't turn you in or nothing. I won't stop you, either. But I can't go against Sarge. Not after all she's done for me."

Solras, The Protector

Solras shakes her head sadly. "You must do what you feel is right, as must I. I pray that you do not regret your decision in times to come." And with that she slips into the bar, eyes looking for a catfolk that she met before, or failing that any catfolk that looks sensible enough to take the news and deal with it in away that makes a difference, and not just fly off in a panic.

"Hey, stranger," says Adonis, turning around on his stool as she enters. When he spies her face, his smile vanishes rapidly. "Something the matter?"

Beside him, on the next stool over, is another familiar face: the patchwork black-and-white cat that led them on a merry chase just a week ago.

Solras, The Protector

"Yes. Something is the matter." She says, sitting down and looking both cats full in the face. "I am about to tell you something that if it is known that I told you will cost me my job, and most likely my freedom or life. I am going to tell you this because it is important and the right thing to do. Do you understand?"

She's not looking for sympathy, or pity, or really acknowledgement. She's trying to make sure they get the gravity of her words.
