Wylde

Wylde winces. "Yeah, tell me about it," she grumbles. "My birth name was awful."

Solras, The Protector

"I cannot imagine, and I will not ask you to speak a dead name." A smile, kindness and somewhat unexpectedly.

Wylde

"I like that," she says, smiling a bit. "A dead name."

Solras, The Protector

"It is rather descriptive, and anyway, your name is yours, what you were called before matters not."

Wylde

"I just wish it wasn't all over my file," chuckles Wylde. "Never have I been gladder that the Sarge calls everyone by family name."

Solras, The Protector

"Why don't you get it changed legally? Pretty much every god worth worshiping has some sort of ceremony you can do to change your name, and with the proper paperwork from tehir temple the Captain will have to change it on your paperwork too." Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch says tilting her head. Like she hasn't checked around Nyra, but at home that was an option, she sees no reason why it wouldn't be here too.

Wylde

"Thought about it," she admits. "It just, I don't know. My mother picked it out, you know? It's a dumb name, but I rarely get to talk to her anymore. It seems rude to get rid of it."

Solras, The Protector

"you could keep it as a second name." Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch offers. There are people with only a single name, so why not three?

Wylde

"True," she admits. "But it's still inauspicious."

Solras, The Protector

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch shrugs. Names change, it's not something to get too worked up over. If she was observing tradition as she should be she would have some prtion of her full name change almost daily, because the name is a reflection of who one is, where they came from, and what they do.

It's only the Captain's ire that prevents her from observing that tradition more than once a quarter.... and even then she's pretty wary of making a change to the short form of her name....

Wylde

"Thanks, though," says Wylde, after an awkward minute passes. "I appreciate you looking out for me."

Solras, The Protector

"It is what is expected." Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch says in a manner that indicates there's a deeper and more subtle answer here. She's not lying, but there's more to the answer - Even though she would be surprised to discover exactly what that subtlety actually is.

Wylde

"Yeah, it is," says Wylde, grinning. It's what's expected if you're Pack -- you look out for each other. Never thought I'd find one here, but maybe this is the beginning of something good.

"Want to come with me to that shop you mentioned?" she asks, a moment later. "Tomorrow's our day off, I was going to go around lunchtime."

Solras, The Protector

"Yeah, alright." Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch shrugs in response "I need some conditioner for the leather straps in my armor anyway. And it would save you getting lost on your way there and wandering into the spice merchants stall.... again." A teasing smile confirms that despite the lack of tonal inflections that last comment was intended as a good natured tease.

Wylde

"Hah! I still say that Paprika thingie was the best purchase I ever made," she laughs, taking another pull off her mug.

And so, the next day, Wylde comes to call on Solras, and the two of them walk across town to the shop the dwarf had mentioned. On her day off, Wylde wears a very masculine button-down and trousers -- many women do, in Nyra, though not the most fashionable ones. She seems content to bounce alongside the dwarf, enjoying the sunshine and the fresh air.
