Go Down

Father Lelldorin

Mar 13, 2019, 04:32 pm #330 Last Edit: Mar 13, 2019, 05:31 pm by Kae
"Justice flares brightly but very, very briefly without wisdom," Lelldorin says gently. "It is good that you have such strong conviction. But throwing yourself headlong into every battle with plan or support only saves the moment at most."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Solras, The Protector

"You would have us do what then?" Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch asks. Her monotone makes it hard to be sure but that's probably cautious curiosity rather than dismissal

Father Lelldorin

"Personally? I would have you learn and grow. Find a path that will last. But then, I am... mostly a Seeker."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Wylde

"What sort of path?"

Father Lelldorin

"For me, it was this," Lelldorin gestures around them. "Not just the temple but the orphanage, the schooling, the free breakfasts for the elderly and infirm."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Solras, The Protector

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch tilts her head and regards Father Lelldorin calmly.

"A seeker... one who delves into knowledge and history for its own sake... If this one was to ask for an augury to illuminate the ways forward.... What would one receive in response?"

How does someone who speaks common in a flat and unchanging monotone manage ti make their words sound curious and thoughtful at the same time?

Father Lelldorin

"Well, that would rather depend on who you asked, wouldn't it?" the priest says with a faintly teasing smile.
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Solras, The Protector

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch raises an eyebrow, returning tease for tease.

"There is but one who could claim the title of Seeker in this room is there not?"

Father Lelldorin

"True, but your use of the word augury suggest you wish for me to ask Above," Lelldorin explains. "Which could be directed to any number of beings."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Solras, The Protector

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch tilts her head, clearly confused.

"I... I may have misspoke. This language is still somewhat new to me. Is not an augury the one who seeks knowledge, and will share that which they know if invoked correctly? the power above may be involved, but they are the one asked and answering, is that not so?"

Wylde

"Wait, you're an auger in addition to a priest?" asks Wylde, blinking. "That's really cool."

Father Lelldorin

"I have some small skill at divination, yes," he answers Wylde as he puzzles over Solras's meaning. "An augury is a ritual used to divine the future or the present, a way of asking for signs from otherworldly beings. Usually but not always the gods or their servants."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Solras, The Protector

Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch looks just as confused as  Father Lelldorin, She's not sure where her word choice went wrong but plainly it did.

"You, of great learning and wisdom, have some idea of a path forward." she states in her normally monotone voice "This dwarf bows to your expertise in matters of this city. If this one's thoughts and plans are not to be effective, Would you recommend a different path forward."

Wylde would likely notice that Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch had spoken in the third person, a habit she had when first joining the guard, but was quickly broken of during training. Since then Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch has been quite careful to avoid speaking in that register, to return to it means... well it means something yes?

Father Lelldorin

"Ah. Well." Lelldorin is quiet for a long moment, head lowered in thought. "You seek Justice, correct? A Justice that is fair and given equally to all, regardless of class or wealth. Those above or beyond the current justice will not allow such a change without a fight. So first you must create the ideal of your justice. What does it look like? How does it work? If you do not have a plan in mind, a plan with at least a moderate amount of detail, all you're offering is a fool's hope."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Solras, The Protector

"Without the will of the people behind it..." Solras, Daughter of Umdor, and Elder Private of the Watch starts then shakes her head and rephrases color slowly entering her voice as she speaks, the fever of her desire, of her belief filtering slowly in to her normally monotonous Common.

"If we bring justice from without, there is no justice. There is Just Us. When we are no longer on the playing field, be it by retirement, sickness, or death, that which we created will leave with us. Because there was Just Us. In order to create Justice that must come from within. The people of this city, of every race, creed, and social station, must be rallied together as one. For without that... we would fail, but bring all the peoples together and we cannot fail to succeed."

Then she looks at the ground blushing furiously.
