Carbonne winces, not bothering to drop the amulet as xe uses something more akin to telepathy to speak. "Look, I need to get to Toukami if I'm going to find another person to wear the amulet. Even if the kid was fixed, he hasn't done any adventuring in years. It's time." 

[Zevran]

Waving off the cabin girl with a murmured request that she see about getting Shisou a change of clothes, Zevran moves to the bed and kneels. "Take your damn necklace and fling it into the ocean for all I care. But you owe him more than this. You owe him to stay until he is at least settled somewhere to heal."

[GamesMaster]

"Are you going to help me find a compatible heir? There won't be one in... wherever we're going. I have to hope one of his sisters have kids by now."

[Zevran]

He regards the outcast elemental steadily for a long moment, then very reasonably asks, "what does compatible mean in this case, exactly?"

[GamesMaster]

"There must be a bloodline match, and, hmm... a certain set of personality characteristics. The amulet will glow if it's placed on a  matching candidate."

[Zevran]

"Whose bloodline? Or what kind, if it is more thus. And what characteristics," he presses.

[GamesMaster]

"Originally I was matched with one young woman. I found the amulet worked for her daughter but not her daughter's friends. So I suppose it has to be descended from her. Shisou is her granddaughter. I have reason to believe Shisou's neices and maybe nephews might work, but he doesn't have any aunts or uncles to try it on, and I don't know what I'll do if none of them breed. I mean. Reproduce. Have kids?"

[Zevran]

"Have kids, children or decedents if the person you're speaking of has died in the meantime," Zevran supplies helpfully. "Mortals very rarely take kindly to having procreation describe in a manner that smacks too much of animal breeding. It comes off as demeaning or insulting, much like how I imagine you would feel if described as 'an earth magic-y thing in a lizard shape.' Is that the extend of the testing you did on the amulet? Just a few attempts at the original wear's child's friends?"

[GamesMaster]

Carbonne blinks. "Well... yes. Of course. I've always been able to find a wielder. One in every generation. I was worried when neither of the girls took to it but it turns out Shisou was the right wielder."

[Zevran]

"So... you've no real idea what the requirements are, just that you've been lucky enough that what, four out of six females in a given family worked but a couple out of a couple girls not in the family didn't," Zevran sums up with a sigh. "I think perhaps you might be well served by seeking the help of a caster, perhaps a druid, at the Oak. See if you can learn more about how the amulet works and chooses."

[GamesMaster]

"The oak?!" xe asks, alarmed. "Not Raplin's Oak?!"

[Zevran]

"...yes? I told you where we were going before." Though I suspect you listen to me far less than you pretend to, smug, aloof ass that you are so often.

[GamesMaster]

"Oh no. There's no way you're taking me to that, that.... that worm-ridden slag-heap!" Carbonne shakes xir head. "HE's the one who cursed me in the first place!"

[Zevran]

"Well... that simplifies things then, doesn't it," Zevran says mildly after a moment. "Should be very easy to determine what the requirements are in that case."

"If he doesn't turn Shisou into a toad!"
