Shiori

"They mutilated me," she whimpers. "And made sure it'd heal wrong."

NPCs

"Mut-" Emiko's jaw continued to move a little but any attempt at words-- or even significant noise-- was lost to her.

"My mistress and I offer our condolences," Manu suddenly break the silence. "An ill turn was given to you. But what is it that you needed from us?"
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Shiori

"I-- I don't-- I don't know what you mean," stammers Shiori. "I didn't... call for you?"

Jassinth

"I may have taken some imitative there," Jassinth explained without shame. "You aren't permitted to seek a healer for yourself, but if another Clan-- particularly one of the Kame Clan-- were moved to do so, it could not be turned down without losing face."

"So you seek to use us."

"I do," Jass answered the eidolon before Shiori can protest. "For my lady's sake, I would shame myself far more than begging."

Shiori

"Jass, no," whimpers Shiori. "Don't risk yourself. What's done is done. I'll be alright."

NPCs

That seemed to jar Emiko from her stupor. "Risk? Shiori, why would he be at risk for getting help?" Manu stirred briefly, but stilled when Emi glanced at him meaningfully.
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Shiori

"Going against the will of my husband's father?" she asks, quietly. "I'm not... I'm not meant to be healed from this. This is my punishment. I think I can manage a wheeled chair, though."

Jassinth

Fists tight at his sides, Jassinth struggled to keep his voice even. "They-- they want you crippled, I understand that but-- but still!" He visibly fought for control as he added, "you wounds could still be healed to-- to healthy if not whole."

Shiori

"This is my life now," she whispers. "I am fated to live and die the insignificant wife of an insignificant noble, crippled and alone."

Jassinth

"No," Jassinth snarled, body going as rigid as weathered oak, though his hand remained feather-light on hers.

Shiori

"I should never have come back," she whispers. "I should have stayed at the Oak."

NPCs

"You're not alone," Emiko declared passionately. Floating over her shoulder, Manu let out a soft sigh of acceptance. Well, there's no stopping her now, they thought with fondness, not after finding out one of her few, precious, friends is in such a bard's ballad.
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Shiori

"But what can we do to stop him?"

Jassinth

"Umm. He who..?"

A soft cough free her attention to Jass. "Genji-sama. At least on paper, given how... indisposed he is these days."

"Is he really... that bad off?"

Shiori

Shoiri nods. "He... is well enough to demand, ah, wifely duties, but not well enough to leave the bed more than once a week at most. I was thinking of my brother-electi's father, Hatamoto, who has been taking over command of the family bit by bit."
