"There's nothing in the laws that says you can't but most people pick a family member or friend"

"...why?"

[Toby]

"Because fighting for yourself means you have no allies. No one to make sure you aren't being manipulated or droned. It means you're weak and can lead to in fighting.if you want to spar with me that's something we can do on our own. But I wouldn't recommend doing it for an official challenge."

[Jamie D'vart]

"But... I don't have any allies. You do, but they're all your friends, not mine."

[Toby]

"You have tova, and since your mother's under Dixon's protection you can ask him. And you'll make friend here."

[Jamie D'vart]

"Yeah, but like... they've all known you for ages and ages, and me barely at all." A pause. "Does it have to be a pack member?"

[Toby]

"You and Tova are in the same class though. Doesn't that make you friends? But yah it can be a non pack member"

[Jamie D'vart]

"...you didn't go to public school did you?"

[Toby]

"No, I was homeschooled until I enlisted in a military academy and deployed. But w we're all very close in basic training"

[Jamie D'vart]

"Yeah school is way different. I'm an art nerd and she's.. got her own friends. I think she's in the cheer team?" 

[Toby]

"So you're not running in the same packs then. Well you'll make friends here, but if there's someone you want to fight for you you might want to make sure their either an adult or magically strong, I'm kinda a big guy. Wouldn't want to hurt a kid."

[Jamie D'vart]

"Yeah, okay. I'll give it some thought." He nods. "How do you set a magical trial?"

[Toby]

"You ask for an example of magical prowess. A spell or potion normally. Or els a magical object

[Jamie D'vart]

"...you can cast spells?"

[Toby]

"I can."  I say summoning a small flame into the palm of my hand
