The maid seems to take than in for a second. "Well, that ain't much of a happy story. Who'd want to dance to that?"

"It's a beautiful story," he says, softly, his voice touched with wonder. "A love so deep and true it transcends form, circumstance, even death. It's the best one could ever hope to accomplish in this world."

"I think the best one can hope for is bein happy and alive...not that love isn't nice to have." Harriet gave a bit of a sigh. "Besides, love passes though the first two of those all the time. Case in point, I had one of those big wig Welcomed that are famous come through here once. Big important fella tryin not to look like he was. Came to look in on one poor woman in particular. Worked down at the docks hawlin crates." She giggled. "Now how you suppose those two met, where he'd come in all secret-like to see her?"

"How?" he asks, eager for the story.

"Met in the park, they did." She smiled, blushing a little. "Just two regular people tryin ta get some time away from their busy lives and they met there. Corse, she doesn't wanna make a big deal of it, seein how he's all wealthy and the like, but he's doin his best ta try and convice her he doesn't care. Now that's a nice story, don't ya think? And no one's bleedin out in the end."

"Don't you ever want something more from life though?" he asks, wistfully. "Something so big and so passionate, something you can never really comprehend or own, something bigger than you.... that's what I have when I dance."

Harriet smiled. "Well, you sure make it inticing. Might be nice to get swept up into something now and again. Problem bein I don't really get to be the one that does so. Still Waiting on myself."

"I'm sorry," he says, his voice sounding heartfelt. He reaches out to pat her hand, trying to be comforting.

Harriet blinked a little in surprise. "That's...quite alright. It doesn't bother me none. Got a good job, and I keep my nose out of trouble...least the trouble that'd cost more than time." She giggled a little. "Don't know why you Welcomed folks always think we're miserable."

"But... don't you want to be Welcomed?" he asks, confused.

"Well of course, but that doesn't mean what I have ain't good. Got a nice place, food when I need it. Don't see why I should worry about it."

Nathaniel smiles. "I hope you are always so content."

[CalamityJade]

"Part of my charm, I suppose." She smiled back. "And I hope you keep dreaming of things like that. It obviously makes you happy."

He nods. "I've never been happier." Until... he shakes his head.

"Something wrong...Nathaniel?" She had taken a quick glance at the medical board at the foot of his bed.
