"Your...job?" That was a little concerning...but so far she hadn't asked him for personal information outside of an email address he could abandon if need be. "Huh...and here I thought kids didn't have any work ethic. So, about this magic circle. Anything else weird about it?"

"Well, Morden can't read what it's intended to do, and of course Echo-main can't observe it due to the split thing. It's six-pointed, rather than the usual pentacle diagram, and I think those symbols are elements -- I vaguely remember that wavy line symbol being water, and the flame is obviously fire."

"So what, he just drew this and didn't notice? that doesnt' make any sense. Why draw it in the first place? Far as I can tell it's just very good at keeping things from inside or outside away from one another."

"Like I said, his sub-persona drew it while his main-persona seems unable to perceive it or anything related to said sub-persona. Or the dead girlfriend."

[CalamityJade]

"....Welll, that's what it does." He's silent for a few moments. "And you might not want to go using that. Circles can be a bit tricky if you don't know how to take them back down and I doubt you wanna get stuck in this one if it has anything to do with Echo."

"Right, but I was thinking it might be the key to unraveling him?"

"Why would...huh." O paused a moment. "Six points....usually you use five." Why the hell would you use six...basic idea is that you're writing what you want to protect against, and covering the basic elements would protect you from about anything. "Looks like it's not complete. There something missing from one of the points...something like that would let something in or out, but I'm not quite sure what."

"Yeah, noticed that. Any idea what it could be? I was taught four elements, but I've heard of five.... but six?" She scrunches up her face, doing a passable impression of a valley girl trying to do math. "Maybe wood and metal? Don't the Chinese use those?"

"It already has wood or metal. It would have to be something else. Something that you would want to keep in the circle or would want to keep out of it at all costs. That's how the things work, after all."

"So if we put like... The dead girlfriend's name there?"

[CalamityJade]

"That's...probably not how that would work. It has to be some sort of...element or force. You could put something like 'soul' in it, but maintaining it would be something pretty drastic." O is silent for a moment. "And you definitely wouldn't want to pass through something like this, so if you're getting messages, it's probably not that."

"What, why not?"

"Well, the space between the inside and the outside of the circle is being charged with magic that is trying to negate the elemental forces that make up about everything, so basically it'd be like the universe was trying to grind you into paste for the brief time your in between. Not exactly a fun way to go."

She shudders. "So even if it worked, girlfriend would be megadead. Got it. So why did she show us this?"
