"I didn't bring one." he shrugs.  "You a betting man?"

accalia

"five and dime it is then, they're just two streets over." Tony says, throwing his gym bag in the back seat and closing the door again, apparently he intends to walk "And sure, if we're betting toothpicks or pebbles."

yamikuronue

"What's the point in that? Nobody wants toothpicks."

accalia

"the point is keeping score. I got toothpicks to spare, i ain't got cash to spare." Tony replies evenly, but with a little hint of 'du-uh' in his voice.

yamikuronue

"Everyone's got pennies." protests Vic.

accalia

"Must be a strange one me then, cause i don't" Tony doesn't seem offended by this, it's just a matter of fact sort of thing.

yamikuronue

Vic scowls. "You're just a coward."

accalia

"A broke-ass coward." Tony agrees amiably, starting to walk in the direction he indicated as being where the five and dime is.

yamikuronue

Vic trots along behind him. "You know ,the Family won't put up with cowardice."

accalia

"I'm betting they'll put up with fiscal cowardice." Tony answers, speeding up to a trot in order to cross a street before slowing back down to a walk.

yamikuronue

"It's a sign, though. If you're not willing to throw down money, you're probably not willing to fight, or risk your neck on a job. It's all the same thing."

accalia

"If i had money to throw down i would. that tenner you saw this morning's all i got to my name right now. even today's payday's already all spoken for, what with settling my tabs, and all my other bills for that boondoggle of a house."

yamikuronue

"Then why buy cards?" he says, petulantly.

accalia

"Because you're buying them. I don't play cards myself so me having a deck's rather pointless." Another quick jog across a street before slowing down to a walk again, they're almost at the store now.

yamikuronue

Vic scowls. Great. He should have said so earlier.

He picks up a bit of speed, letting Tony fall behind as he enters the store first. I'm definitely not paying for no cards. Instead, he browses the merchandise, trying to look casual as he looks for cards. A deck of cards was a small thing, easy to pocket when the storekeep was distracted...
