yamikuronue

"No." He gives a bitter laugh. "It's not bad at all."

Tony nods "So, what's the problem with wanting a nice life?"

yamikuronue

He shakes his head. "There isn't one. So this should be easy. I should just be able to say what I mean and then everything'll be okay. But... but I can't."

accalia

"Well, the first step to doing that is to make a decision. Then once you make a decision work to make it a reality."

yamikuronue

"I did," he whispers. "I spent all afternoon thinking about it. I drove myself crazy with thinking. But the answer's clear."

accalia

Tony says nothing at this, nothing much to be said really, not until Vic actually says the decision he made.

yamikuronue

He rests his head on the table, trying to just breathe and relax.

"I can't keep it," he says, quietly. "The job. Bear's paperwork. It-- I--"

accalia

"Put that defeatist attitude away. Don't say can't." Tony's voice is sharp and clipped, he's upset at Vic but not angry. "There is no such thing as can't. What do you want? Throw away your obligations to others, your current situation and decide what you want, then we can figure out how to get from where you are now to where you want to be."

yamikuronue

"I want to become a detective." He blurts out the words almost on top of Tony's question, not waiting for him to finish.

accalia

"Thought you did. Now let's figure out how to make that happen."

With that Tony sits down again and starts helping Vic put together a plan to make it happen. By the time they can't keep their eyes open any longer it's well gone two in the morning and they have a plan, it's a rough one, full of maybes and contingencies, but it is a plan. Step one is for Vic to talk to Bear in the morning.... And Tony gets to have a chat with Giovanni... They're not sure which one will be the harder conversation.

yamikuronue

Vic walks into the station carrying a small box. Having something in his hands is a blessing itself; it keeps his hands from shaking. He makes his way to his desk, aware he's getting in before Bear, and starts going through paperwork. His handwriting is atrocious today, but at least he can get things done... slowly.

accalia

Surprisingly Bear is late for his shift, not by long, only about seven minutes, but certainly long enough to worry Vic. The giant is obviously unhappy as he crashes into his seat, the chairs casters keening in complaint. "Mrng." is the greeting he offers Vic before diving into his own paperwork.

yamikuronue

Oh... oh no, he's in a bad mood. Vic cringes a bit, but stops himself once he realizes he's doing it. He chews on his lower lip, lost in thought for a few minutes, then gets up to get coffee -- and fills a second cup, sliding it onto Bear's desk.

accalia

"Why did i think trying to out punch Bruce was a good idea?" Bear complains as he nurses the coffee.

yamikuronue

"You punched Bruce?" asks Vic, sounding vaguely impressed.
