I'm fairly sure i don't have to give a hint at the translation of the origami message....

....when you say it like that it sounds REALLY CREEPY

.... it's not exactly inaccurate either.

accalia

PSST..... Obsidian......

there are six points of the star in the magic circle....

five are filled with the symbols for Fire, Water, Wood, Metal, and Earth..... one is blank...

what could be drawn in the last one?

Yin-Yan?

Life?

Death?

something else?

What would that do to the circle i wonder?

"I don't know...maybe whatever it is wants you to break the circle...that could also be tricky since I didn't get the feeling that Echo even had a circle on him, so why put it there in the first place."

Does this make sense to you https://what.thedailywtf.com/uid/650">@accalia? Yami seemed confused by it.

accalia

yep. it does.

The circle is in the Aether, not in the real world.

Siegfried would probably notice it if he was looking for it and Obsidian probably would have a way of looking too if he thought about it.

yamikuronue

Okay, time out here. Can you explain how the magic you're envisioning works then? Because I've been picturing this in a Wiccan mode, ala Key of Solomon: by drawing the symbols on the ground you create sacred space with a strong barrier surrounding it, creating a separation between the inside of the circle and the outside, that can serve to contain something dangerous inside it, or keep dangerous things outside it if you put yourself in the center. Like a summoning circle. In order to work, that sort of thing has to be in the physical world, so clearly I'm picturing something wrong here.

accalia

No, you've got it right mostly.

The difference between that and the system of magic i'm imagining for Echo is that the Aether operates on pretty much the same rules as the real world with regard to circles, The landscape may be rather more fluid than the physical world, but the same general principle applies.

A circle in the Physical world will protect from the physical world, but will be weaker in the Aether, likewise a circle in the Aether will have much stronger influence there than in the physical world

does that make sense?

CalamityJade

Does that make Echo a...physical place in the Aether? I'm actually starting to find this a little more confusing than I thought when I believed that somewhere on or inside him was a circle that held the representation of whatever is trying to communicate.

Circles don't usually move, though. Is the Aether a one-to-one mapping with physical space, such that as you move through space, your spirit moves through the Aether? Or is it more of a logical mapping, so that you're physically close to spirits in the Aether when you're emotionally or spiritually close to them?

Or do circles move?

something like that, to him at least.

It kind of works the same way his levitation of the origami works. He see's the world in a certain way and he can act as if the world is that way so long as nothing happens to change how he sees the world. The Aether being what it is is highly subjective in how it appears to people, That's why he can see it that way.

We saw that the first time that Siegfried went looking for Echo in the Aether, at first when he met Ms. Schreien the aether was extremely fluid and there was not much "solidity", but when Siegfried entered the circle that changed dramatically. The scene there was drastically different, even though it was still more or less a part of the Aether.

That change was part of the effect of Echo's view of the Aether and the level of order the circle had imposed upon it by being cast.

true, they don't move usually and the ones that do (that are writen on paper for example) are very weak and unstable at best

Something of a hybrid, at least how i envision it.

There is a physical mapping aspect of it yes, not quite a one to one but still. Additionally everyone has "their" part of the Aether that maps to them. and while the connections and landscapes between these islands change as the person moves in the real world the island of Aether that is "theirs" stays unmoving, shaped only by their mind and their will.

that's probably a non standard vision of it i'm sure.

yamikuronue

Nah, that makes sense, In Hollingworth, I did Dream much the same way: your dream-seed exists in Dream relative to other dream-seeds, even when you're awake (it's just a placeholder then), but when you dream, someone can enter your dream-seed and view your dreamscape, which is the stage for your dream and thus fluid and weird.

If I read you right, you're saying Echo's-- well, let's use Vi for now. Vi's Aether-space is a concrete landscape in Aether that moves around as she does, but if she casts spells inside her Aetherspace, tethered to her landscape, they'd be buffs for her, stationary relative to the boundaries of her Aether-space, but moving about within the overall Aether landscape as she moves through the physical world

well i imagine that since it's Vi it's not literally made of concrete https://what.thedailywtf.com/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji-one/static/images/1f609.png" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-parsed" data-set-id="emoji-one" data-emoji-id="wink" alt=";-)" title=";-)" />

but yes. that's basically the way i was seeing it work.

Echo made the circle's outer edge practically touch the outer limits of his personal area and the protection is strong enough that he's almost impossible to detect in the Aether proper. the only time he's detectable is when his beta personality breaks through temporarily.

yamikuronue

Cool.

Then in order for Siegfried's powers to work as I've described, he has an innate knack for reaching someone's aetherspace when he can find their physical self, dipping a toe in the aether so to speak to pick up their surface thoughts. He has to astral travel to get more information than that though

That's more or less exaclty how i thought his powers worked. https://what.thedailywtf.com/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji-one/static/images/1f609.png" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-parsed" data-set-id="emoji-one" data-emoji-id="wink" alt=";-)" title=";-)" />
