Well, of course I'm going in my civilian identity, but I should still look my best!

Um. I don't have anything that sparkly. Ah! I didn't think I was going to get asked so I didn't plan on going! Um...maybe I can make a trip to some stores so I can get something like a sparkly, flowy dress?
And I don't even know what HE'S gonna wear! Should I be worrying about matching or is that okay! Oohh, maybe I should braid a nice ribbon into my hair! That would look cute, right?

so I asked my, um, whatever, and he said he probably won't notice if you match him or not, because he's probably stupid. Are you in high school or middle school? Or, I guess you could not be a schoolgirl, I don't actually know you, but SakuraPetals said... anyway.

Um...well, I guess I'm kinda in high school. It's sorta a weird situation. Anyway, I don't think he's stupid, so that seems a little judgmental to say. He's at least a level higher than me in school so he's taking more advanced classes...I think he really just was using the cards to talk to me, which is kinda cool.

Um, also, while we have uniforms, they're not really sailor fukus so I guess I only kinda count? Maybe I should just try to find something REALLY pretty to show off?
Oh, but that's probably not gonna work. There's some REALLY pretty and rich people at my school who probably had dresses for the past month or something.

You need to like, get together all your friends and learn a valuable lesson about friendship and sacrifice! I suggest collaborating on your dresses, or doing a fundraiser where you sell candy to pay for it, or something valuable like that.

Oh...um...I don't really have a lot of friends. That's kinda why I came here. I'm usually pretty tired during the day and miss what most people are talking about. I mean, I'm doing fine in class, but it's just kinda always been like that.

Well, that and most people think this entire thing was silly before magic was everywhere and I don't think they stopped just because it is.

Well...my hair changes color and I can be really acrobatic...um...should we say everything about our powers here? I mean, this is a safe place, right?

While we try to vet our members and police the boards as best we can, I would recommend sharing details- of your personal life or powers- only via PM, and even then only to people you truly think you can trust. Once information is known, it can't be taken back (without breaking a magical Law, which is just compounding your problem. Remember, being beheaded sucks and more than just the people posting are watching this.

It's not like anyone here knows my real name. I've got an amulet that does a full-on transformation, costume and everything.

I don't mean to cause a scare but having someone's 'real name' is needed to track one down. If you read the Announcement thread thoroughly, you might recall this incident wherein I was able to find someone's journal in just a few hours from quite a ways away. True, I had the writers name but... And if I can do it, then so can other people.

Again, I don't mean to scare people. The odds of getting someone's interest strongly enough to invoke the effort needed for that sort of thing is very low, much the same as getting a hacker interested in you enough to raid your computer for credit card information or whatnot. It CAN happen, but it probably WON'T... but it doesn't hurt to take a few simple steps to lower the odds even more.

Oh! Well, if it works like that, then I should probably not get too specific. If we left it to being able to transform or not, then that should be safe. I did a quick internet search for "Transformation" and with that happening to everyone and everything (Honestly, who would turn mailboxes in to cheese?) then that should be safe. As far as that, I don't get a costume, but I can transform and my hair changes color. Is it alright if no one posts powers outside of that?

I kinda agree with Librarian about being safe, tho. Most of the time, it's small things if you're going to have a secret identity, that let people find you. I'd probably really suck if anyone got kidnapped over it.

Whatever. I guess I should delete my account then, since there's no point talking to people if I can't, you know, talk. To people. About stuff.

This was stupid.

No one said we couldn't talk to each other. Just that we should be careful about what we say. Like I could talk about how tough it is to try and turn people into the police without giving away your secret identity, but I shouldn't say where I was doing it.

Yes, absolutely. This is a relatively safe place to talk and share, but it's a public place. If you wouldn't say something in a... shopping mall, you probably shouldn't say it here either. There's always PMs as well, if you want to share something with a specific person you trust here.  AquariousBound's example is a pretty good one (and I hope you're being safe when you capture the criminals as well!) in how you can share without exposing yourself.

Back on topic, RockDiver: For your dance date, it sounds like this is a first date so I can understand wanting to 'dress to impress' but you shouldn't over do it either or it can come off as trying too hard. I would ask around (if there's a dance committee, they might be a good starting point) to find out what the dress code is shaping up to be.

(legal stuff: Paranet does not condone vigilantism, work within the system, etc etc)

Oh hey, this thread is suddenly very relevant to my interests!

Definitely try and find out the general feel of the dress code. If the dance committee doesn't work out, try and ask one of the more approachable popular girls, they should have a pretty good feel for it.Wearing jeans and sweater to a black tie event is awkward but so is wearing a tux when everyone else is in jeans and a button down shirt.

Loose and flowy is pretty good (just not so flowy you trip on it) but sparkly might be a bit much for a high school dance- unless sparkly is part of your normal look, in which case , embrace the sequin!  If you're worried about clashing with your date, ask him! If nothing else, it shows you're actually making an effort, which he'll probably appreciate. If you're not up for asking him, then I'd default to a nice solid black base color for your dress. It doesn't clash with anything really and most guys wear black or grey to dances so the odds'll be in your favor.

Your idea about the hair ribbon is golden- ribbons in long hair are rarely a bust. Plus, it'll help it stay in place if you get your groove on. Color wise, I'd go dark solid colors if your hair is lighter (blonde, light brown, etc), a paler solid or pale/dark strip pattern for black or dark brown hair. Red hair looks great with a rich green or bright yellow. And it occurs to me you might have hair in the anime-palette... uh... good rule of thumb, you want a color that is different than your hair color so it can be seen but matches the tone. When in doubt, pure white or pure black (whichever contrasts more) are generally safe.

Best of luck and I hope your date goes wonderfully!

I don't know. what if I tell you about how my boyfriend hates my stepdad and then some new story shows up on the web about some girl's boyfriend killing her stepdad and someone kidnaps that girl thinking she's me and she's not?
