You might not be a 'good fit' where you are now (something that, to be honest, I blame those around you for far more than yourself), but that doesn't mean you can't find a place you fit in better. It can be hard to leave home, I do understand that, but sometimes it really is the best course of action. There are help groups that can give you direction and even financial assistance if needed if you're of age (I got the impression you were but I could be wrong) or you could contact Child Protective Services (or your local equivalent, see attached document for a detailed but partial listing for contact info and a brief description of a few help group and various services in most English speaking countries) if you're still a minor.

What other books have you read and enjoyed, if you don't mind two topics at once?

Body: Yeah, I'm away at college now. It's just... hard. I go home on weekends sometimes and it's rough. Nobody talks to me. I guess I just... if I'm not a werewolf, who am I, you know? Sometimes I think I'd be better off out of the picture entirely.

I really liked Ender's Game.

Body: Is there someone from college you could perhaps invite back with you? Having a friendly face to serve as both support and buffer might help. And maybe find a club or something that meets sometimes on weekends to give you a reason to cut back on visits? Avoidance isn't a long-term solution but it might buy you the time you need to figure out what you want to do about your concerns.

And... maybe so- as I mentioned to your cousin, sometimes it walking away from home, cutting ties, is not only the right thing to do, it's the best thing to do. Family is important but there comes a point where you need to decide if someone is family or... a Dursley.

Hmmm, a rather interesting read-  I liked Game, but I prefered the Shadow series (following Bean) more than the rest of the Ender series (though I loved Jane). If the (mostly) hard science and space combat parts were the draw for you, you might like Catherine Asaro's Saga of the Skolian series. It has some space opera themes as well though (lots of focus on relationships, romantic and otherwise)

Body: It wasn't the lack of magic that characterized the Dursley's- it was their lack of tolerance and xenophobia. Just like the Death Eaters, they hated and feared anything that was different from them. Padfoot was raised in the sort of culture but he never fit- some part of him wouldn't let him belong there, wouldn't let him value the same things or share the same viewpoints.

Sirius was lucky enough to find James and Remus and later Lily and Harry.  He stayed true to his heart and found his own place in the world, one that accepted him and his values while pushing him to better himself.

Although, by the end of book seven- (sorry, small spoiler but very relevant)

Dudley realizes the flaws of his upbringing as well- he ends up married to a witch, giving birth to a magical child and even exchanges regular letters with Harry.

So people can change, grow and become better.

Body: Mmm,. 'better' is a matter of opinion and personal preference. So parts of the world are *much* better at accepting differences in sexual orientation or presentation. Some are worse. It's mostly a matter of finding the place that matches you the best. That accepts you.

Body: I'm a lesbian actually. My girlfriend is bisexual and our best friend is gay. My father is... well, he's kind of fluid about that sort of thing (I'd say he's bi but he also has a female form in which s/he's bi as well, so bi just sounds incomplete).  Some people- too many people- are intolerant and bigoted, but there are people who can and will care for you.

Body: I think the first step is deciding what you want to do or have- what will make you happy and safe?  Then you can start working on the steps on how to make it happen.  It sounds like you either want your current group to accept you (which is very unlikely to happen at this stage) or to find people that will accept you in place of them.

Well, you've already round a few people here on ParaNet. Look around and see if you can find local meetups. Either for supernaturals or maybe for the LGBT community around you, if there is one.  Do you have any hobbies that might have local groups?  They might be put off by the supernatural as well, but they might not be. Do you have a friend that can go with you the first couple of times at least, until you're comfortable? Maybe your cousin?

If you feel comfortable giving me your general area, I can probably dig up some suggestions (I'm pretty good at researching and stuff ^_^).
