The Amell Legacy: Transgressions

[Bethany]

"Well... I mean, that depends on how you look at it," Beth retorts. "From where I am, you're not with an abusive rapist and have a cock. So."

[Carver Amell]

"Fuck you," he snaps, hands balling into fists. "You hated him before he lifted a finger against you. You did nothing but talk shit about him the whole time we were together. You didn't care if it hurt me, you just wanted to be right. So fuck you, and you stay the hell away from Merrill."

[Bethany]

"Like hell! Just because you were so caught up in your own shit that you didn't notice all the little things that he did wrong, doesn't mean they weren't there! With Hunter, with Marian, with me- you didn't care about any of the things he did to us, as long as you were happy. And I get it wasn't entirely your fault, that he was grooming you or whatever it was that Helene and Marian were talking about and you were under a Burden, but that only gives you a pass for the past and it sure as hell doesn't excuse him for any of it."

[Carver Amell]

"I see," he snaps. "So if people lie to my face, go behind my back, and try to take away the only thing bringing me happiness, they're good people, but if I want to be happy, I'm selfish and bad. You're just like Mother -- you only see what you want to see, you don't actually care. You can't even name a thing he did except make me happy! Of course he didn't like you, you were always angry at him! Of course he didn't know who Marian was, she was lying to him! All he was trying to do was his best, just like everyone else."

[Bethany]

"Go behi- I flat out told you that I distrusted him, that I wanted you to break up, that I disapproved. And you want me to name things? Well, given that you don't care that he fucking raped me, I don't know if you'll care about him selling Marian to slavers, but that happened. Or about him threatening to get Leandra to send me away. Or how about his bullshit about Hunter? You like the dog, so maybe that counts? Marian didn't take Hunter, he sold him along with Marian. He hated the dog, it was competition for your affection."

[Carver Amell]

"He didn't do that to Marian, that's just your fucking theory," snaps Carver. "I don't know who kidnapped her and Hunter but it wasn't Jadan. Mother was the one threatening to send you away, not him. He never did anything to Hunter, he just was trying to help. You're the one so jealous of him that you can't stand to see me be happy! Yes he raped you and yes that's fucking terrible, but he's not the one that broke my heart, you are. I trusted you! I believed you when you said you wanted me to be happy! But as soon as someone else made me happy, you hated him. You just wanted to save me, you didn't want things to be better unless you were the one who did it. So you can stay the hell away from Merrill before you find some reason to hate her too!"

[Bethany]

"Yes it was! He- fine. Let's ask Helene to use divination and ask whether he's a slaver as well as a rapist," Beth snarls. 

[Carver Amell]

"This isn't about him!" 

[Bethany]

"Then what's it about Carver? Because you clinging to him despite what he did is feeling pretty damn central to the conversation."

[Carver Amell]

"This is about you and me and whether or not I can ever trust you again!"

[Bethany]

Beth takes a step back, face pained- and pissed. "Trus- how does that even make sense?"

[Carver Amell]

"Do you have any idea how much you hurt me?" he snarls. "Do you even care? You were the one person in the whole world I thought I could trust, the one person I thought honestly wanted me to be happy and not just-- just-- compliant! But no, you only love me so long as I agree with you, just like everyone else!"

[Bethany]

"I-" Beth swallows, eyes wide. "But I didn't- it wasn't about me, it was- He's dangerous and wrong, he would- it wasn't real, Carver, I was trying to- to protect you!"

[Carver Amell]

"I hate that you're right," he snaps. "I hate what he did to you, and I hate that you think it justified all the things you did to me. You're going to believe whatever you want, just like always. But you're not, not, going to get in between me and Merrill. I won't let you. She's been through more than enough. I won't let your jealousy hurt her too."

[Bethany]

"I- I like Merrill! She's a real sweetie. Shy, sure, and a little strange but she's been living in the woods by herself for years so that makes total sense. She's great." Beth shakes her head, pushing past that. "What did I do to you? Because if you just mean tricking you into seeing beneath his mask so you were forced to realize you loved a fake..." She shrugs. "Then yes, I will believe I was right to do what-" She swallows. "To try and break you both up. He was hurting you, you wouldn't even humor me about trying to see if I was right so... I did what I had to in order to keep you safe."
