The Family [Finished]

[yamikuronue]

He nods. "I don't... I don't want to stay in. But I couldn't leave my family in the lurch."

[accalia]

Bear shrugs. Why Vic was in isn't important, the important bit is he's decided to go straight. "So. what's the next steps?"

[yamikuronue]

"Uh. I try not to worry about Tony being shot. I try to keep my nose clean and avoid any of the Family that might be vindictive. And.... I'd like to sign those papers you offered me. I didn't really feel up to reading them through last night but... I want to be a detective. I like putting stuff together, solving puzzles."

[accalia]

"Well, you really should read those papers before you ask me to sign them, but I'm glad you want to go for detective." Bear sounds approving "And don't worry about Tony. He can take care of himself. Last time he got in a punchup with Bruce he laid the guy out cold in one punch."

[yamikuronue]

"...he can't beat a gun." he says, with a small shudder.

[accalia]

"true, we're none of us superman."

[yamikuronue]

Vic nods. "At least the nightmares seem to have eased off some."

[accalia]

"In this job that's good, they never go away, but you do learn to live with them and control them." There's sadness in Bear's voice at that, an unspoken and deep pool of sadness and pain leaking out in the tone and his posture.

[yamikuronue]

"Will... will I get more of them? Will I have to go through stuff like that again?" He shudders. "I hated being so helpless, but there was no way out."

[accalia]

"Honestly? probably. Detectives see the nastiest parts of this city. beat cops handle the simple ones because catching someone red handed is not complicated, but finding a dead body in the river and then finding the person who put them there and put them behind bars, that is important, even if it is hard to deal with."

[yamikuronue]

Vic nods, slowly. "And I'll have to be a beat cop first. But... I've seen a lot of shit, and it wasn't so bad. This though... being helpless... I think I'd be less helpless as a cop?"

[accalia]

"Yep. but it's not all bad, in fact overall it's pretty good work, it's just that the bad bits are what stick with you the easiest. You have to take care not to forget the good moments."

[yamikuronue]

Vic  nods. "I'll... I'll try to do that."

[accalia]

"You'll do fine." Bear states with finality before continuing with a bit of a non-sequitur "You gonna finish those fries?"

[yamikuronue]

Vic shakes his head, pushing the container toward Bear.
