Setting Information

New Avalon

@cloak15 said:
The gleaming pillar of the world. A city unparalleled in the hundreds of years since it's founding. The lights of the skyscrapers could be seen for miles around, drawing everyone and everything to itself. Anyone that was anyone wanted to make their way there. Those that could make it would be set for life. Towers of polish silver gleamed in the day time....but the city truly shined at night. The town would lite up with a million 'stars'. Searchlights drawing eyes to famous eateries, playhouses, and hotels to draw the eyes of everyone. The lights would reflect off the buildings and they would give an almost unearthly glow. Some would even call it 'heaven on earth'...but the sentiment rarely lasted long.
Of course the city glowed. It was the shining jewel of Merkava, one of the largest countries in the world. It housed the largest shipping companies, manufacturer headquarters, everything. It was also where the governing body of Merkava was stationed and made the decisions that would effect the entire country. Business heads of almost every major company called this place home. Famous writers, actors, musicians...you name it, the best were here. People that could walk over a hundred crowns cuz they made more than that in the time it took to pick up, and if you asked them when they knew they made it they'd say "When I was welcomed here with open arms.". That was the saying here. If the city 'welcomed you' then you would find your success and dreams. What they don't tell you is that the city didn't 'welcome' everyone. Those that didn't had a hard road to walk.
It was something about the city, or maybe the place that it was built, but it could...guide people. People would come here, with nothing but the shirt on their back and a few crowns, and in a year they would be wining and dining with the best. No one knew when it would happen, but one day the city would 'welcome' you and you would be set. It was like hearing the bit of a song that cut through a crowded club and changed you. The thing is that not everyone lasted long enough for that. Until you had your golden time, you had to work the nine-to-five. You were the cog that kept the gleaming machine running and could get replaced in a second. And then there where those that seemed to just become...lost.
You wouldn't know it, but not everyone that comes to New Avalon is 'welcomed'. Some would come here with a little, and lose it all. Some would find...other ways of making their way, usually off the sweat and blood of others. They would find ways of squeezing those waiting their golden time for everything they had till they also become lost. Probably in the hopes they could be comfortable till they were welcomed. Maybe out of spite for the city itself...but even then, they didn't leave. They knew what everyone else did. Once you had been to the city you were either 'welcomed' or you wandered it's streets till the day you died.

Setting Concept: The City

@cloak15 said:
So, in this city there are usually only three groups:
The Welcomed : Those that have entered their 'Golden Age'. They've come seeking their fortune and dreams and the City has deemed fit to agree. They find their path to be the easiest and their efforts bare the most plentiful fruit. If anyone is anyone in New Avalon, it's because they've been Welcomed. Doesn't mean some people aren't able to make a living, but the ones that do it in style and shine like the City itself are always the Welcomed.
The Waiting: Those that are still trying to become the Welcomed. Maybe if they find the right idea, talk to the right person, or be in the right place they can become Welcomed. In the meantime, they have to do a lot of work to make a living in New Avalon and there are plenty of jobs the Welcomed would say they were too good for.
The Abandoned: Those glum souls that just couldn't hack it. Either they couldn't wait any longer, or the other inhabitants of the city are grinding them down to nothing. They've lost their dreams and hopes, and have nothing to show for their time, but even then they almost never leave. They remain in New Avalon either out of spite for the city that spurned them or the people who 'caused' their downfall.
Then there's the Rejected. You wouldn't call them a group because almost none of them last a day. It's rare, but sometimes there's someone that just makes everything worse. They go against everything that New Avalon supports and the City itself has turned it's back on them. The real difference between the Abandoned and the Rejected is that one THINKS the city is out to get them. Everything the Rejected does from that point turns to ash. Every unlucky or terrible break that could happen, does, and they quickly find themselves in the receiving end of some grisly death.

Setting Concept: The Pulse and The Path

@cloak15 said:
The Pulse, that hum of the city that everyone can feel. It's what some believe draws all the people to New Avalon and why no one leaves. Some are simply privy to it's existence and that there's more as people gather. That charge from a good dance party, the calm waves that wash over you at music shows, that's the feel of the Pulse. Some go a bit farther and are able to do something with that energy. The way that lights shine a little brighter or dim a little lower during those soul-stirring musical numbers? That's probably because the performer(s) in question can use the Pulse to draw the listeners in and really connect with them. Others are the members of Cursader Industrial. They are the ones that draw the Pulse to power the machines, lights, and everything else in New Avalon. Everything, from the street lamps and bright lights, to the towering factories in the Forge run off the Pulse.
The Path...that magical series of events that lead you to being Welcomed. Some believe they were born to find their path. Others believe that it's all luck. Even MORE believe that it's more of a religion that separates the worthy from the condemned. And then there are those that believe they can see it. That they know how to find someone's Path and can lead them to being Welcomed...all they usually ask is a little monetary compensation for their assistance. Of course, they'll almost always ask up front, but hey. Sometimes you have to gamble a little to win.

Name: Theta "T" Roidmet
Age: 17
Concept: The Lost One
Description: Dark brown-black hair, which she keeps back in a ponytail; short, with a slim build, and a noticeable scar down the left side of her face.
General info: Theta was her father's bastard daughter, Lance's half-cousin. She grew up outside New Avalon with her mother until her father discovered her existence (and poor living conditions) and brought her to live with him at age 14. At 16, at once of the brilliant parties she never quite fit in at, The Incident occurred. By the end of the week, all anyone could agree on was that Lance's best friend Aiden and Theta had engaged in canal relations -- but whether she was drunk or drugged, willing or raped, was hotly contested. When Lance threatened her, she realized she'd never fit in among these people and struck out on her own. Now she lives on the streets, homeless but scrappy.
Status: Waiting

Rob

Name: Rob 'Mac' McCarthey
Age: 21
Concept: The Private Detective
Description: Black hair, blue eyes, skin tone the dark end of Caucasian (think Mediterranean). Normally wears smart-casual trousers, teamed with a shirt and jacket, but no tie. Sometimes also wears a trilby. Always carries a notebook and pen.
General info: Attracted by the promises of the big city, Rob (or Mac to his friends, of which he has few) moves to Avalon to pursue a career as a private detective. However, he's struggling to make it a success; so far, he's earning just about enough to live by, but until he builds a solid reputation, he'll be unable to rake in the big bucks.
Status: Waiting

Erika

New Avalon Immigration & Registration Form
Name: Erika Stark
Age:20
Concept: Underwhelming performer
Description: Chin-length straight brown hair, large dark eyes, and a pear-shaped frame.
General info: Erika always knew she'd be someone. She just had to get out of the shitty public school she was in, move to the big city, and find her true calling. She was intelligent, healthy, and spirited -- surely she'd find work easily and make it once the city Welcomed her. Right? ...Right? Three months later, her dreams were in tatters at her feet, and she was working nights in a convenience store watching the last of her savings dwindle away, struggling to make rent.
Status: AbandonedRejected/Welcomed

Nathaniel

https://what.thedailywtf.com/uid/731">@Yamikuronue said:
Name: Nathaniel Saunders
Age: 19
Concept: Primo Ballerina
Description: Long auburn hair, waist-length; delicate facial features, firm, strong dancer's muscles. Considered highly beautiful.
General info: Nathanial began dancing lessons when he was 6, and by 14, was renowned as a magnificent dancer, and so beautiful too, like a little cherub. At nineteen, he's compared to a cherub less often, but he's attracted a string of rich patrons who have paved his way nicely. He was Welcomed almost immediately upon entering the city, and has known no life other than that of a dancer. His current patron is Mr Black, a man nearing 50, known for being hard to please and a collector of beautiful things.
Status: Welcomed

Name: Lance Roidmet
Age: 19
Concept: The Heir Apparent
Description: Long brown hair, kept back in a ponytail. Tall, with a swimmer's muscles.
General info: Lance was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and never once questioned it. His father's Welcoming had led to a serious amount of money -- all of which Lance stands to inherit. Still, he sometimes feels thing are a little too easy for him -- which is one of the reasons he likes martial arts. Physical prowess and skill isn't something money can buy, so he takes a good amount of pride in his body. Not that he doesn't love to party either
Status: Waiting

Do you want some of my canons or should I make new chars? Because Erika would fit right in here :)

Hammer Sister

Getting a bit of a dystopia vibe from that... could be interesting https://what.thedailywtf.com/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/emoji-one/1f604.png?v=735rlqkeesl" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-emoji-one emoji--smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes" title="" />
And then the murders began.

accalia

dystopias are always fun to play.
don't think i have a character lined up for that though. will need to create a new one.

Hammer Sister

At least you have a stable; so far, I have a name, and that's it! https://what.thedailywtf.com/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/emoji-one/1f61b.png?v=735rlqkeesl" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-emoji-one emoji--face_with_stuck-out_tongue" title=":stuck_out_tongue:" />
And then the murders began.

accalia

one thing at a time. one thing at a time.
also i prefer to think of it as a boarding house. https://what.thedailywtf.com/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/emoji-one/1f61b.png?v=735rlqkeesl" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-emoji-one emoji--face_with_stuck-out_tongue" title=":-P" />

CalamityJade

So kinda like a Hostel?

accalia

something like that, just a bit more upscale.

CalamityJade

There are upscale Hostels...anyway, I was wondering what people might like to see in the game. The setting I find interesting, and the tone (For those that don't know about it) is like those chicago mobster stories or the like. That start of industry that has everything in chrome and wood paneling...of course, I'll be adding a bit more fantasitcal element to things, but that's what I'm going for.

Go Up
