The Family [Finished]

"You think a lot of things," mumbles Vic, as he tries to steady himself.

[accalia]

"And i'm rarely wrong, it comes with the job. left turn here please" Tony says, pointing Vic towards a closed course loop where the police department holds driving lessons for civilians and cops alike.

[yamikuronue]

Vic turns, more smoothly this time, like he's getting the hang of it. And he is, slowly but surely -- at 10mph, at least.

[accalia]

"Good. once round the track clockwise please, Listen to the car,  get a feel for how the sound of the engine matches the revs on the tachometer." Tony is approving, but not congratulating.

Vic sets out along the track, getting a feel for how the car maneuvers, how it feels to rev the engine.

In little time the car makes its way around the track, on the back straight away Tony says "Good, not try shifting to second gear."

[yamikuronue]

"Uh... okay so.. that involves... the clutch? I think? I press the clutch now with my other foot?"

[accalia]

"Press the clutch in with your left foot, release the accelerator, shift, then release the clutch and gently apply the gas at the same time." Tony says, then a moment later "Don't be surprised if you stall the engine the first couple times you try. It's pretty much the hardest part of driving."

Vic nods. "Okay. I can do this." And he sets about promptly.... stalling the engine. "Fuck!"

[accalia]

Tony nods. "You were a bit to aggressive on the gas. try it again, but ease into the transition more."

[yamikuronue]

Vic starts again, but rapidly stalls the vehicle. It takes him six tries to get to second gear, but when he does, he lets out a whoop of joy. "I did it!"

[accalia]

Tony nods "Good, now shift back down to first."

[yamikuronue]

"Wait what?!?" And he stalls the car again.

[accalia]

Tony sighs inwardly, getting this car started in second gear is a bitch.... "Okay, well let's get her started again, put the clutch in while you do or she'll stall as soon as the starter disengages."

Fifteen minutes later, he has the car running in first again. "...I'm not sure this was a good idea," he confesses.
